Here's something you probably didn't now: Naughty Dog has approached "Superbad" and "Pineapple Express" writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg to make a movie based on the acclaimed Uncharted franchise.
During a recent IGN interview with Rogan concerning his latest movie, "This Is the End," Rogen spoke about Naughty Dog's eagerness: "They're constantly asking me and Evan to make the 'Uncharted' movie." It seems the studio has contacted the writing duo several times over the last four years, but Rogan and Goldberg never accepted the proposal. And why? Said Goldberg:
"It's just going to be Indiana Jones. If we could figure out a way to make it not Indiana Jones, it'd be awesome."
Well, yeah, it's basically Indiana Jones 2.0. However, if they really delved into the storylines of each game, I think they'd find enough material to differentiate it from the Harrison Ford classics. The question is, do you think Rogen and Goldberg is the right pair to handle this project? Naughty Dog certainly thinks they are.
I'd say no. But apparently, Naughty Dog sees something in them that we don't.
never watched those series, but they're wrong imo that an uncharted
movie would just be another indiana jones movie.
again, imo it just comes down to creative control.
Well they (Rogen and Goldberg) obviously have a connection with the Sony family (Superbad, Pineapple Express, The Green Hornet, This is the End).
Considerin Rogans sarcasm Id say hes probably exaggerating a bit. But either way I would never have guessed ND would pursue them for this. Really kind of odd.
And yea they need to play the games and really take a look at the stories. You see the brilliance in each and you would see how special and different from Indiana Jones these games are.
Why not asking the Nolan brothers or Goyer?
Am I asking too much?
I think its good that Rogen and Goldberg want to stay away from this. I've seen their movies and while they're good, nothing screams Uncharted to me. What's next? ND will tap Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg to write The Last of Us? hehehe
Isn't the game enough of a movie already? Seems redundant.
…we'll just assume that's a bad joke.
I didn't mean that in a bad way, by any means.. But doesn't it feel like we're playing an action blockbuster? With the superb acting and graphics, I just don't see what a live action movie could bring to the table.
You got a point, imo. But the thing is, this franchise would be *better* as a movie. It's not like our input matters anyway, and the movie aspects of these productions are obviously the focal point.

*99-year long sigh*
Really Beam? Its hailed as one of the best franchises of the generation, even talked about ever, in the gaming community. You say it would be better as a movie? Okaaaay!
Seriously? Green Hornet was CRAP.
I wonder if he is being serious about it, seems interesting that Naughty Dog would want THEM out of everyone.
Hm… very interesting. I know Rogen plays games (though he's not exactly a "gamer"). There has to be something more than just the potential of an IJ clone. Well… perhaps it just isn't meant to be. I hope someone worthwhile gets on-board with it though.
I'm not understanding why they would want him to this it in the first place. The only movies I liked with Rogan were Pinnaple Express and Knocked Up. The rest of his movies are garbage.
PE was absolute trash.

When I read the headline I thought maybe it was some kind of bad joke, just not who I would have ever picked for Uncharted. Nothing against them, just seems to me like trying to mash a square peg in a round hole.
Personally my vote would be for Joss Whedon, he does a great action/comedy/in-depth story combo.
Wheedon is awesome. Im with you on that one!
Rogen is brilliant for turning this down, they are not the right writing team for Uncharted. They make great stoner movies but Uncharted needs a little something different.
And it would be way easy to make it more than Indiana Jones, while the overall theme is similar the differences in tone and characters are stark.
People are so short-sighted when they say it's basically Indianna Jones. Heavily inspired by it yes, but a clone it is not. And some people forget that certain elements are tied to the genre you're in.
Drake would get high and have curly hair. Elena would get Knocked Up. Sully would be a perv, and also smoke pot.
I think I can understand why they said no. Let's face it, game critics and movie critics are in two different courts. You take a novel and turn it into a movie that flops, eh so what, its just the movie industry. You take a well liked game and do the same? Ha, you just might wind up looking down a gun barrel. Just look at the outcry at Mass Effect 3's ending. You would think the world was coming to an end!
not exactly the first team id pick, more like the last.
but, eh, its a game gone hollywood or should i say hollywood gone hollywood?
so we already know its going to suck donkey balls no matter who makes it, so eh whatever hack your brains out!
My pick would be Paul Greengrass Director, Tony Gilroy Screenplay. The Bourne Series were really good movies with smart directing and good thrills.
All they need to do is think bigger on the action, keep the amazing fight stuff and we would have a decent Uncharted movie.
Nolan, Whedon or Snyder would be great. They pay attention to the source material. What about David Hayter lol!!
I cant see Rogen writing the script Especially with that narrow minded comment regarding the I J movies
For what it's worth this is the end is hilariously funny I saw it today Almost fell out my chair
Seth Rogen plays the prologue from The Last of Us, while Evan Goldberg looks on.
