It's time for gamers to get some respect. Perhaps the best way to do that is to target the strides the industry has taken and will continue to take.
Inaugural Films has announced on Kickstarter that their project "Videogamer: The Film" has entered production.
Focused on innovation, this documentary is inspired by creative developers and publishers in the industry, and it follows the adventures of Josh Craig and Jonathan Reynolds-Engel as they explore the ins and outs of the video game business during the course of a year. The film will involve developers, publishers, journalists and players and is "set to be a revolutionary film for the gaming industry, community, and everyone across the globe who considers themselves a "videogamer." This is very likely exactly what we need, especially with all the negative press after the Newtown tragedy.
Stay tuned for future updates on the project, which we hope is running along smoothly.
Maybe it can highlight the art aspect which seems to be lost on so many.
Ah, an external piece of news I can agree with. Quite refreshing from the ignorant politics of ignorant politicians. Hope the film is a success, and it's a great idea.
Hehe – who the heck want to watch this movie except for a handful of die-hard gamers and industry insiders. To outsiders this will be taken as serious as a documentary from the Scientology church.
This smells not of "straight to DVD" but "straight to torrents".

That's not the point. The simple fact that it exists should prove that gaming is about more than virtual guns.
It takes more than existence to prove anything. It won't mean a thing if no-one sees it.

is this really what the industry needs?
turn it even more mainstream.
sometimes i wish it would just go back to the dark days, where playing games meant you lived in your mothers basement, and the term girl was some sort of ogre.
at least games were games back then!
and saying i finished one actually meant something!
The Indie Game movie last year was pretty good. But people didn't really seem to notice it which is a shame. The Wizard was awesome back in the day. And King of Kong was a great documentary. Video game movies, not based on video game franchises tend to be good. It's the game to movie adaptations which aren't helping people's opinions of the industry.
