Ben-DutkaA couple days ago, we learned Lightning's new look would appear in a Japanese magazine this week.
Well, here's the leaked scan and as you can see, it's pretty darn similar to the previously released details.
Lightning sports a white cape, body armor, and what appears to be a new sword. She doesn't look half-bad so the fans shouldn't be too disappointed. The gameplay details, however, may warrant another minor meltdown from long-time hardcore Final Fantasy followers.
Yes, Lightning will run around in free time. She can jump over obstacles and even scale telephone poles, and elements of stealth have been reported as well. Toss in the fact that there will be no party, and that the attacks will be mapped to the face buttons (as in any other action game), and you've got something that we'll have a whole lot of difficulty classifying as a role-playing game.
But hey, she looks great. That's something…I guess.

She looks… absolutely ridiculous. What in the f*ck is going on in their minds? It's a terrible mish-mash.
I should have known after the costumes got really bad in XIII-2 that something like this would happen. You can't market someone that looks like that. They are going to have to change it.
And whats up with her elephant bell-bottom jeans????

That's part of the poor design of her waistcape, if you look close you can see her legs and that those actually aren't pant legs.
Looks like it though.
I like this much better than the prior pants'less half suit of heavy body armor. I think I'll always like S-E, even a little, just for their incredible artists.
While this isn't the epic FF I know everyone is hating S-E to have, I think this game looks cool in respect to itself. Hate me now folks!

Sounds cool. An action game starring lightning. I don't recall people complaining this much when FF7:Dirge of Cerberus came out. That was a final fantasy game that focused on action and shooting. Hopefully it turns out well.
There is a huge difference between Dirge or Cerberus & Lightning Returns – DoC is a spin off and LR is a sequel. LR is an action game which is placed after to RPG's (yes they're RPG's!) It's just too disjointed. You expect a trilogy of games to remain in the same genre when it breaks from that it just becomes a mess – Take Resident Evils identity crisis with 6.
As for DoC, I for one did not mind the game but the story was absolutely appalling. The especially the part about Hojo and the epic for epic's sake of a battle at the end. I never felt such hatred towards Crisis Core which handled everything rather well.
eh, i think everyone knows where this is headed.
come to think of it they should turn this into a stealth sword fighting game kinda like the old tecnchu games, at least then it would be allot of fun and unique!
Far to over the top… Well the game has stated you can change her clothing anyway so hopefully this one wont be too important.

The fact that this is going to play more like an action game certainly warranted such outfit.
And it does remind me of Sengoku Basara……….

But Lightning He did leave you a black corset and some boots…………LOL!!!

Wow, I don't even know what to say.
I don't think it looks bad at all. It appears to be more in line with the "traditional" Final Fantasy costumes circa pre FF VII. I'm also optimistic about the action and platforming additions, but we'll see what the new trailer Saturday holds.

Oh boy, her fist outfit was the best, all of those other clothes have been weird.
I didn't mind the XIII-2 one, it made her look like a warrior, which was fine. This however looks like it is on the verge of Lightning's cameo appearance in Bayonetta 2…
I think Lightning looks fine for what this game is going to be.
For an actual Final Fantasy RPG, she looks ridiculous. But for the action/adventure mess that I perceive Lightning Returns to be (and when I say mess, I mean an identity crisis mess), then the outfit…fits.

This new "look" just makes me like the game less and less…
Yeah, the outfit is pretty terrible, but everyone has forgotten… you can change her outfit. No one here seems to freakin' remember that small detail… this is just the DEFAULT outfit and you can add on or change things accordingly, in which will also give stat upgrades and things of those sorts. You're all just looking straight ahead and neglecting everything else that's been explained to you in the past… Jesus, guys, retain some amount of information for once and put 2 and 2 together, it's not that hard…
