Skyrim DLC For PS3 Might Be Too Little Too Late, Bethesda

Bethesda still hasn't managed to bring any downloadable content to the PS3 version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim .

But at least now they say they're "close."

We've been following the publisher on Twitter for a while, just to see if they toss up any fresh updates concerning this topic. Recently, an encouraging one showed up:

"To update: we're also close on new Skyrim content for PS3 and PC."

A later tweet thanked fans for their patience and promised that we'll "love the new stuff." That "new stuff" has been available on the Xbox 360 for some time; there's the Dawnguard and Hearthfire expansions, and the recently confirmed Dragonborn add-on will also hit the 360 first. Thing is, even if PS3/PC owners got all this eventually, isn't it just too little too late? It has been almost exactly one year since the title launched and as gimongous as it is, most gamers have moved on, yes? And even if they haven't, I imagine they're somewhat bitter…

Things move fast in this industry. If you're "close" to giving us DLC this long after a release, I'd question if enough people even care at this point.

Honestly, I will still buy all of their DLC, and still love it.

I have been very angry about the delay, but one thing we have to remember, these guys are NOT Squeenix. They are at least trying, even if they are only barely trying, and they have stayed true to the Elder Scrolls formula the entire time.

Does it annoy me that they can't seem to program for the PS3? Hell yes! It makes me want to never buy one of their games ever again, BUT the thing is, the 200hours of gameplay I put into Skyrim tells me that the good things about Skyrim outweigh the bad by about 10:1.

100% Agree with Akuma07

I'm furious that Bethesda can rake in dough on these AMAZING games, yet consistently FAILS to hire the needed PS3 expertise needed to handle all the platforms they claim to support.

I am HAPPY to have them continuing to support Skyrim, and NO… I have not forgotten the game. I still love it, and will continue to love Skyrim even after the DLC is released.

I'm glad for fans of the game that they are at least creating the content – or really just making it work on PS3.

Personally, I traded in my copy two days after purchase after I encountered a couple of game breaking glitches. I hope they fixed those as well.

I got the game 2 days after launch and never experienced a game ending glitch. I noticed many bugs but most were just mildly annoying.

I'd still buy it, but we should get a discount or something…

Nope don't care, but it would be nice if it caused a release of a patch that fixed the game breaker.

Well, considering that I had 7 quests sitting there broken (including the Civil War one) and got rid of the game, no, I don't care.

Something inside of me believes that Bethesda has done this on purpose to appease Microsoft. Perhaps the folks at Bethesda are nothing more than 360 fanboys.

Who knows?

I don't believe they did it on purpose but good lord they are obviously 360 fanboys regardless of the timed deal they signed with them. That much is crystal clear…and unwelcomed.

Next to burnout paradise, I put more hours on Skyrim than any other game this generation but am teetering very close to the "who gives a sh*t" point b/c of their treatment towards the PS3…AND that there are other games to play. I mean come on, it's a year later and my backlog has now moved on from this game.

Stay Classy PSX…

MS told Bethesda that if they didn't screw up the PS3 version, Microsoft execs would kidnap their dogs and eat their children. They sealed the deal in blood on their altar made from the bones of kittens.

Yeah I'm with SirLoin. This is most definitely Microsoft pulling the strings backstage.
I suspect the Knights Templars might be involved somehow too.

Considering that MS has paid Bethesda, the possiblity could exist.

If it is possible to avoid sarcasm, I am curious to see what excuses either of you have for Bethesda not being able to do what 99 percent of all top flight development houses can achieve.

Working on the PS3 and producing amazing results is more than possible. If one was to throw away the theory of Bethesda intentionally doing this, I can't help but see a company wide failure on their parts for not hiring staff that were up to the challenge.

As I said, something isn't right here.

Yeah but what I don't understand, is that there is quest breaking bugs in ALL versions of the game.

The 360 had a lot as well, and the PC had just as many, but you could fix them all with the console.

The only things broken in my game, are maybe 2 or 3 completed quest items that I can't get rid of.

I avoided game breaking bugs, by using the Autosaves to backtrack every time I ran into one, which was still rare.

Excuses? I have none. The fact they can't get it right is inexcusable. The notion that they're somehow botching it on purpose though is silly. Not every bad thing that happens to the PS is due to the evil overlords at Microsoft commanding their minions to spread bugs and glitches throughout the software their competitors use.

Beef – The same problems persist on all the RPG style games offered by Bethesda for the PS3 and have for years.

MS has also paid for exclusive rights to DLC (something I have said before).

I am just thinking out loud here because I can't for the life me understand that why a company of Bethesda's pedigree would continue to struggle.

This tells me that a "choice" has been made by the company heads. That choice has been not to take the steps that are required in order to ensure that the increasing PS3 fanbase is treated fairly.

You don't have to be rocket scientist to understand that these same company heads also received money from MS for certain rights on the 360.

No conspiracies here, just formulating a solid opinion based on human nature and business.

But do you know how much money it would cost to make bethesda not care about alienating all the ps3 customers. I can't see it being worth their while to intentionally alienate an entire system. What I can see happening is that they've factored in the cost of fixing the bugs vs. leaving them and have realized that people buy it anyways so there's no point in fixing the bugs unless the complaints go viral.

Matt, the power of MS is incredible. Bethesda wants to appease them so much that they'll spend a good amount of money to develop the game for the PS3, only to intentionally include a number of glitches and make it hard to create DLC for, infuriating a good number of current customers and alienating potential future customers. It has to be it.

personally I feel that the only real way they can save this is by giving the PS3 users a 'real' discount on the DLC.

and god help them if its glitchy.

..the sad thing is we all know its going to be glitchy.

I passed on this game when it came out. Then when it got all hyped up how great it was I looked into it again but then the no dlc news hit and still game was glitchy after the fixes. I think ill continue to pass on it.

The glitches are honestly blown out of proportion, if you like open world rpgs you're seriously missing out.

It occurs to me that Skyrim is a game that the more casual audience has gravitated to, so you can bet that a lot of them would still be interested in it. I can't say I'd be tempted to take it for another whirl at this point, but a few years down the track, why not? It's a good game that you can ALWAYS go back to.

But yeah, it sort of is too late, unless the new expansion is something even more amazing than Dragonborn. They need to recapture the excitement of the original game if they want to draw people back.

I don't really care that much. Maybe down the road I would be interested if there was a sale or something. But Bethesda just didn't do the PS3 version justice. They made a ton of money off of an inferior PS3 product. They should offer Hearthfire for free at least. Other than that, I hope they do a much better job next gen with PS4 games.

whatever, i sold my game on ebay. got tired of waiting for the new DLC. I am not going to buy a game from bethesda untill they get their act together. sell a broken game and then tells us that you might give us DLC that was available for Xbox a longtime ago. almost a year has passed since Skyrim came out. i am sorry but PS3 owners deserve some respect. maybe they will be ready when the ps4 comes out.

If you really, really loved Skyrim the first time you played through, I guess Dawnguard is worth it. But honestly, it's more of the same and I'm not sure I'm thrilled I spent 20 bucks on the 360 version. No question PS3 players got screwed here, but what it's worth, it wasn't that great :-/ Oh, and I surely didn't waste my time with that idiotic house-building simulation where you have to fight off rat infestations and you're given the option to adopt a kid. I have plenty of chores to deal with in my real life, thanks.

Now the Dragonborn content that's up next… THAT has my attention

Skyrim….hmmm….isn't that the game that shipped with a game breaking bug that was so bad that Bethesda sent 360 copies of the game to PS3 reviewers?

Honestly, I could only care less if their name was Square Enix.

You really can't put the two companies even in the same sentence.

Bethesda seem incapable of creating a PS3 game without bugs.

Squeenix ruined one of the most famous and loved gaming franchises of all time.

hmmmmmm. I know which one I would prefer.

It is really interesting how 99% of people on PSX seem to have said "Nope, I will never buy a Bethesda game again". Even after this news.

Bit of a case of a group mentality maybe?

We didn't even get Oblivion till a year after it was released on 360.

Honestly though, I poured over 200 hours into the game. So obviously the bugs didn't deter me at all. I had a blast with the game.

I care that it's taking so long, but it's still worth buying, so I will. Not to supports Bethesdas practices, but the game itself. It's an amazing game and anything that enhances the experience in any way is worth it.

Still shouldn't have taken this long though!

Make the DLC free with ps plus and make the game like 15-20$ with ps plus. I may have to try skyrim again but i didn't enjoy my stay the first time. I can't believe how short the big quests were. Story was so.. Cheesy? Not to mention my game ran fine until they 'patched' it.

As soon as i updated, my game started crashing and the civil war quest broke for my mage. After that i was like F you bethseda and F the people who told them to 'fix' it. Seriously though, i love fallout 3 and new vegas. Not a single crash on either game. So, im happy about fallout 4.

I'm hoping that you mention FO3 n New Vegas in a clear name only because you ran them on PC?

Because there ain't SHIT clear with the PS3 version of both games, man. Not a SQUAT.

and yeah, the NEW VEGAS sucked for not having enough Brotherhood of Steel involvement. THEY ARE SO BAD ASS!!!! Damn that high tech talk just gets me so amped up!

Fallout 4 better run suckin smooth, man. Well, then again…it doesn't I'll just steer clear xDDD

Wasn't the PS3 version of Oblivion released a year later? If they were going to take this long to get it working properly they probably should've just done that again.

Biggest gripe I have about Bethesda is their apparent disregard for Sony and Playstation. Surprisingly the PC seems to be on their "don't give a crap" list now as well. If it wasn't for the fact that I LOVE the style of games they produce I would probably never buy a game from them. Sad to say but I will probably get around to buying the DLC for Skyrim, perhaps if they rerelease it as a "Complete" game or something…

I think the only real way for Bethesda to please or somewhat fix things with the majority of PS3 gamers is to give us all the DLC for free. You may say well that doesn't make sense cause they'll lose money but you need to look at how much money they may lose in the future from lost sales of their games.

oh come on, of course plenty of people still care!
theres a reason why theres millions of tweets every single week asking when the skyrim DLC for ps3 will be released!
gotta love the spoilt brat mentality of society these days, they whine till their faces are blue, complain oh im not interested anymore.
but how many will be rushing to the PSN store when it finally comes out?
as a wise man once said, haters will hate right to the cash register!

My gamer friends! As excited or as displeased you may be about the update, riddle me this.

Skyrim. A stand-alone game on the disc for PS3 apparently cause so many issues, bugs, game-breaking faults etc. Bethesda's reply to the fault?:

"It's a huge world, it's hard to have things working properly. There is a lot to do".

A stand-alone game. Huge – was the problem apparently. So. 3 expansions, making a game even bigger, for…the PS3, a good idea?

If you do not mind another, long wait for them to fix DLC bugs then I guess you'll be fine.

Conspiracy Theory:

I find it very interesting that Bethesda seems to have finally figured out how to get the DLC on the PS3…nearly 1 year after release.

I suspect they had some sort of exclusivity agreement with Microsoft their PR crew screwed up. All this mess about not being able to figure out DLC for the PS3 as a ploy to cover up the timed exclusive content.

Never have I seen such a shoddy job as Skyrim was on the PS3.
And, as cliche as it sounds, you can bet I'm never buying another Bethesda product again.
