Sony Formally Unveils Updated PS Store

The fans have been begging for it, and now it's here.

Today, Sony Network Entertainment International and Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. have unveiled the new-look PlayStation Store for the PlayStation 3.

The update features a "completely redesigned, rich user interface, with easy search and powerful content discovery through the integrated catalog of more than 20,000 pieces of game-related content including downloadable games, add-ons and themes and over 100,000 videos and TV shows." This drastic overhaul now delivers overall easier navigation so we can peruse what Sony is calling "an unprecedented amount of content" on the Store. Furthermore, product pages now offer in-depth info about games, providing users with a "rich visual experience similar to the advanced high-definition games only found on PS3." So now even our searching is flashy!

Please bear in mind that the new Store is currently only available in Europe. It will go live for US gamers next week on October 23 (same goes for Canada, Brazil and Mexico), and Japan will receive the update "later this year." Odd to see Japan get anything late in the video game world, isn't it? Or maybe I'm just old.
