You Can Hunt Sharks In Far Cry 3…Only If You Really Want To

Shooters are usually about gun-toting baddies. But Far Cry 3 takes the FPS concept to another level.

Not only can we expect a huge open world to explore, but that world will also be vibrant and realistic. And considering the setting, that realism will have to include the likes of tigers, sharks, and other dangerous wildlife.

Lead game designer Jamie Keen spoke about that aspect of the game , saying it'll be possible to jump in the water and hunt sharks. And that's just one example of how the FC3 atmosphere is unparalleled in the world of shooters. Of course, as Keen reminds us, hunting a shark could prove difficult but at the same time, a shark skin is valuable in the island economy.

They also wanted the wildlife to react normally; i.e., as animals would react in the real world. So it's not really about animal enemies, it's just that you always have to consider your surroundings because you might piss off something that could cause problems. Added Keen:

"I think the thing that I’m most proud of is the way the systems combine together just to make the world feel alive. The possibilities of interaction with the different human NPC types and the animals on top of that – with the animals then hunting themselves – sometimes you feel like you are walking through a nature documentary. All that life going on around you I think is something really special for Far Cry 3. You end up with hugely emergent situations where we are never quite sure what’s going to happen."

This is all just more reason to play Far Cry 3 . I just hope the whole animal idea isn't overdone to the point where they feel like more enemies. The erratic unpredictability of the idea is a good one; I hope they maintain it throughout the adventure.
