Thankfully, one of the most respected directors in all of film still wants a piece of the video game industry.
Not too long ago, the struggling THQ was forced to cancel a number of projects, and that included Guillermo del Toro's inSane . But hey, the guy is in movies; he probably runs into this sh** all the time.
And as the "Pan's Labyrinth" director told Kotaku , he's not about to give up yet. There are other ways to go after the project and he won't be shying away from any fresh opportunities to realize his inSane vision. Said del Toro:
"When something doesn't happen in one way, I just continue pursuing it in another way. I own the property and I control it. I'm not giving up on InSane."
It was actually supposed to be a trilogy at first; we're not sure if that's still the intent, but it's nice to see him so determined. By the way, you may also note in that article that del Toro will be using the fantastic voice of Portal 's GLaDOS, Ellen McClain, in his next movie. Good call, that.
I'm glad to hear that because I hope he never gives up on making At The Mountains of Madness happen.
And it'd be cool to see where this might go in the next generation. He should take it to a pub/dev that isn't about to go bankrupt.
He should pitch it to Curt Schilling XD
Yep, he is a talented man and shouldn't give up on the project. Haven't seen much of it, but would be interested in seeing it released at some point.
I wonder how he will feel this December when he is sitting in the movie house watching "The Hobbit" though… a great opportunity lost for him I think.
Q!
"play.experience.enjoy"
That's the kind of passion I respect in a maker of creative content. Rather than "Hey, there's money to be found in this so, let's do it!" Del Toro is more like "I have a vision for a potentially great game, so I really want to make it!"
Hope he finds success in getting someone else to pick it up. Was vague on the details, but Del Toro's films are pretty damn good and I was very interested to see how his vision would translate to video games.
I wonder if his game logo is any indication of how the game is being made. It reminds me of inFamous.
Not being able to get a publisher could help push the industry's drive toward all digital. 🙁
That's a good point, like how unique and innovative games tend to be digital.
Good on Del Toro, and I hope his game gets made.
Hoping inSANE gets revived and hoping for a third Hellboy film.
Loved both films.
THIS. C'mon Ron Perlman, pony up some of that Sons of Anarchy money for another Hellboy for the fans 🙂

This game well make a good PS4 launch exclusive. *cough* *cough*
Imagine if he teamed up with the old TeamSilent for this project… It would be a match made in heaven!
