Do New FFXIV PS3 Details Imply The Release Is Nigh?

Final Fantasy XIV for the PlayStation 3 wasn't actually supposed to be this far behind the PC version.

But as the PC version essentially debuted as a broken game, Square Enix was forced to go back to the drawing board and make some pretty significant changes and fixes. That has indefinitely delayed the arrival of the PS3 iteration.

And yet, do new details from Famitsu (referring to the game's console controls ) imply that a PS3 launch date is looming on the horizon? At this point, however, perhaps the more important question is- Do PS3 players even care now? Not only did FFXIV receive a tremendous amount of bad press, but time moves awfully quickly and few may be interested when it finally arrives. Square Enix did appear sincerely apologetic about what happened and they've apparently made great strides in repairing the PC version…just not sure if that's enough.

So what do you say? Would you still like to see FFXIV on the PS3?

Not until i get my godamn, 6 year waited, FFvs13. Then maybe afterwards i would clamor for ff14. Sorry for the language but my patience with these people has been severely stretched thin. I don't get how they think this and ff13-3 are more important than ffvs13. Is it because its not multiplat? So it means less money? Before someone says its probably multiplat, i know but what other reason could there be? The multiplat games are being created and finished rather quickly while the exclusives are taking a long time. Kingdom hearts 3, ffvs13, and ffxhd.

Also since we're on a FF doscussion, Ben im trying to get cloud in FFT and i read and watched like 60 guides for it but its not happening. Am i stuck restarting my game all over again? My first and strongest mage died against the belias priest and ever since the game has gotten real tough. Figured cloud would even it out a little bit. If you have any advice i'd appreciate it.

Hang tough til you get tg cid. Then the game is a breeze.

I don't think you want to give Cloud so much credit in the game, he starts at level 1 when you get him.

Have you sent people on all the side mission quests?

Maybe grinding some more, will help on the tough parts. Always check what the enemy range is.

Yeah i do im just afraid of sending them off because i have my one party. If i get into a battle im stuck with chocobos and myself. Fun fights but still.. And what really? Sigh… I really miss my mage…

I always keep the extras I get at the start, but after that, I -always- keep the story characters. If you didn't, you will not be able to get Cloud as you will absolutely need Mustadio, for example. And actually, if you don't keep Mustadio or if he dies, there's a lot of added story and characters you can't get. So, fair warning!

Another reason for keeping story characters is for their unique classes and also because their base stats are better than random name characters.

Ugh. FFvsXIII… please! You know, the game that got announced before this and both FFXIII sequels.

I doubt it. Unless they remove the 8 hr only/week xp limit. The whole point is to play hard, max out and end game. When SE removed that option it was like a big fu to the hardcore.

Exactly, I've never seen someone nerf their game like SE did with XIV.

I actually prefer the leveling and exploring as opposed to the end game. If endgame is all that matters wow is the place to be, you can max out a character in less than 2 weeks.

I'm currently playing GuildWars2 (put in over 250hrs) and I really enjoy how it deals with leveling up. If you go back to lower level areas you're put down to that level but you still keep all your weapon/armor stats. So you can still go through the area rather easily but mobs and bosses can give a challenge.

Limiting the time someone can gain xp within a week is ridiculous.

8hr a day? I never reached that much in my life.

Underdog15

It's 8 hours a week, not per day.

I agree it's low, but there's a lot of stuff you can do in that game apart from leveling up. It would be hard to reach that total, regardless.

Was never really into the mmo's to begin with. PS3 version looks great though. Ultimately I still want to see what will happen with Final Fantasy Versus XIII but Square-Enix has truly sickened me this gen.

Nope, don't care. They are going to have to make it free to play to get anyone interested. And now that PS4 is looming closer I can't see any major reason for releasing this at all.

I agree. It's a good game at it's core. I played it for as long as it was free. But I have no interest in maintaining a subscription.

And I played FFXI for 3 years or so, too.

One thing I will give it, though… it's a fairly pretty game.

Yes, please! Release the game already so everyone can forget it exists and move onto Final Fantasy Versus XIII already. That's the game people are chomping at the bit to play.

Seriously, Square, it's just… I don't even know what to say anymore.

The ship has already set sail. There`s a lot of amazing MMORPGs out there; unless FFXIV adopt F2P, I doubt a lot of players gonna flock their servers (with the exception of hardcore fans of course!)

DCUO, SWTOR (Going to be F2P), AION, RAIDERZ, GUILD WARS 2 (B2P, technically its F2P), SECRET WORLD (Hints of it going to F2P), Planetside 2 (Currently in Beta), Hawken (In Alpha), ALLODS ONLINE, etc.

FFXIV may be an FF franchise but competing with the games I mentioned without any incentives I don`t think they`re gonna stand a chance (+ previous version of FFXIV sorta left a bitter taste in fans and gamers alike) F2P or B2P is their only option if they want XIV to be successful.

SE has completely $hit on me this generation of gaming. First XIII then XIII-2 and now XIV. I spent a lot of time making sure I not only was in the beta but able to play it the instant it became available and omg was it a tremendous letdown. It's apparent the people that once made fantastic games are either no longer there or silenced.

To be honest, I find it rather amazing that they've put as much effort into fixing FFXIV as they have. A Realm Reborn is something almost unheard of in MMOs. I'm still not interested, but I think that the PS3 version could be a very good proposition for anyone interested. It's just too bad that, by now, that's a very small contingent.

Also, A Realm Reborn is supposed to launch early next year, with the PS3 version alongside it. We'll see how that goes, but it's kinda promising at this point.

3 Questions;

1) Up-front Cost?
2) Monthly fee? (and how much?)
3) Is it any good/worth it?

Has the pricing and subscription information been confirmed at all? For #3 I guess we will await reviews from trusted sources.

LimitedVertigo
LimitedVertigo

1) $60 (I'd be shocked if it's cheaper than this on consoles)
2) Everything they've fixed/changed and said on the updated game says they're going to stick with a monthly fee. Though I'm sure for the first several months it will be free.
3)The videos and comments I've seen have at least shown it to be an improvement.

Just get GW2 and play with me, geesh.

1 39.99
2 13 bucks a month (if you just want one character) 15 bucks a month if you wanna be able to have multiple characters)

3. Not as good as FFXI but thats been around 10 years Im sure after FFXIV is that old itll be that good too, also FFXI didnt start off great either. FFXIV is vastly improved and at least worth playing now (unlike when it launched), plus it has a storyline thats followed by dungeon crawling, boss fights and cutscenes, and the stories actually have endings (something most MMOs dont do and is FFXI and FFXIV main selling point) its basically just like playing a "normal" FF game but with co op (and longer leveling time), also you get a 30 day free trial (the first month is free so you can use that to decide if you wanna stick around or not) and lastly its better than WKC online (which YOU play a lot) mainly because the online world is open, youre not stuck in "lobby group" you can explore the entire world solo and run into other players (or enemies) while you do it…

picture this:

youre exploring forest alone…. having fun, minding your own business, then a pack of wolves attack you, you try to fight them off but are getting pwned, you try running in vain as you know you wont get away… just as your final HP is about to drop you get cured out of nowhere, followed by one person (or multiple) who just happen to be passing by obliterating all the wolves attacking you and thus saving your life… does that sound fun?

I had a similar experience in FFXI except it was against a sheep and a skeleton, and the guy that saved me didnt kick their butts he just kept healing me while I did the fighting heh, we were friends for years after that, and once I got higher level (he was high level and I was a newbie back then) I had the oppuritunity to return the favor MULTIPLE times, we took turns saving eachothers asses for years to come lol Im hopin to have experiences like that (and much more) in FFXIV

as for trusted reviews just go to rpgfan.com they reviewed the game when it first came out (and was horrible) and they re reviewed it every time a MAJOR update to fix the horribleness came out, read all their reviews and youll even see the review reflecting the fact that the game went from bad to.. I wont say "great" but more like "how it SHOULD have been when it was first released" and Im sure the big 2.0 update is gonna push it to "great"

TheHighlander

well, as good as or better than WKC online is definitely an attractive proposition. Their pricing leaves a lot to be desired though. Even at the peak I wasn't putting $13-$15 a month into WKC for the various tickets and extras. and after the initial rush of gaining levels and ranks is over, the monthly commitment shrinks to zero if you do not wish enhanced drop rates. I mean seriously, if they want me to fork out $40 to buy the game and another $160 (more or less) per year to play, they better provide a crap ton of good content and continual enhancements.

I mean, it sounds tempting, but the time commitment is an issue for me too. If I was playing this as much as I played WKC, then the monthly fee would not be a problem since I would be unlikely to buy many other games. However, if the game doesn't have a sufficient hook to gain that kind of play time, the subscription is simply too high. I know a number of folks in WKC2 that might come over to FFXIV, but I think we're all also feeling that we need to catch up with our backlog first.

Well as far as backlogs go, when I was playing FFXI it was the ONLY game I played yet I still bought new games I wanted every month and literally didn't touch them util YEARS after I bought them because I was hooked on FFXI… the only time i played anything else was when I COULDNT play FFXI… for example I got disgaea 1 and star ocean 3 on ps2 the day they came out… i dindt play either of them until 2008 because of FFXI… by that time the ps3 was already 2 years old lol

as for content I wouldnt pay for WKC2 monthly because of the lack of content… like they say you get what you pay for and WKC is free whereas FF isnt for a reason, they get new additions every 2-3 months, in the form of new areas, new bosses and dungeons to fight, the continuation of the existing storyline (and the addition of new ones in the form of expansion packs), so if you care about story that alone will keep you playing well after youve hit the level cap, as for the level cap… a dedicated WKC player can hit that months… it took me a full 12 months of playing FF everyday for 8+ hours a day before I hit the cap (i could do it in a month now but thats because I have experience and there were new/faster ways to level now but back then… yeah youre not gonna hit max level and be bored as quick as you would in WKC).

Also the world is massive and open.. if you care about exploration you could spend a year just doing that alone, looking through every nook and cranny trying to see if theres anything with finding.. heck it takes a full day to walk from one end of the world on FFXI to the other without using fast travel/mounts or speed enhancements.. and thats if youre walking in a straight line, its basically like living a second life in a new world, some people even had "job" and services they charged ingame money for (other peoples "job" consist of making in game money to sell for REAL life money for those who had a fat checkbook but not the kinda freetime it would take to earn the kind money in game they needed themselves).

then there were people like me, who went to new areas for the first time when they came up, escorted people through dangerous areas, took down bosses (an players) for them, assassinations, stole whatever they needed stolen from whoever they needed it stolen from or killed whomever they wanted dead, played bodyguard all if the price was right there wasnt a job too dirty for me. I kept my friends close and my money closer, and in my downtime Id even mentor/be "big brother" for the newbies. I had quite the reputation (including the first person to make a team for and complete CoP that didnt consist of ninjas or Summoner which at the time was thought of as the "only" classes that could do it as it was too hard for any other classes and not made for them.. which I proved while it IS hard as hell with other classes its doable if you have people who dont suck and a great strategy you can still get it done you just have to fight harder for it than summoners and ninja did, while those who DO suck should probably indeed stick to Summoner and Ninja because those missions definitely werent made for the "weak")

and yeah I cant wait to bring back/restart my rep in a new world come next year, heh even using the name name and face (the faces and races in XIV are the same as in FFXI to make the transition easier for those coming from FFXI) so yeah highlander you DEFINITELY get your 15 bucks worth

Thanks Duo, I'm keeping a watchful eye on this. BTW is there cross play between PC and PS3 gamers?

duomaxwell007

yup itll be just like FFXI in which case PS2, PC and XBox 360 players all played together on the same servers and you couldnt tell who was playing om what unless you asked them… FFXIV isnt on ps2 or xbox 360 so in this case PC and PS3 players will be on the same servers…

that includes characters account too.. i.e i could start playing on PS3 then go over someone house who ha sit on pc and log in to and play my character on pc if I wanted so not only do you play on the same servers together youre not restricted to staying on the console you started with.

FF11 did that to me too Duo. I literally ignored every game that came out while I was playing it and I wont say regrettably but I did miss out on some awesome games that I eventually did get around to playing.

It just had such an awesome sense of community, because you had to group up and you had to work as a team.

I have so many memories of FF11 but sadly unless FF14 drops the monthly fees there is no reason for me to play it over Guild Wars 2. That game is just the gift that keeps on giving.

umm the only pc players that get it for "free" is the ones who already bought the original version… you have to pay otherwise, the only other way youd get it for "free" on pc is through illegal means, in which case then ALL pc games can be obtained for free so you shouldnt play any console games at all based on that logic… just get em all free on pc

theres new beta keys being sent out recently, and they were heavily promoting it at the expo over the weekend so yea id be surprised if this is not close to at least a new unveiling.
it was funny $E had all these booth babes in not much at all walking around their booth asking surveys on FF and everyone they spoke to just said no im not a FF fan anymore.
just goes to show how much damage they have done to the series……..
just makes me wonder why they dont just drop it for now, and give the fans what they really want.
ends with a 3, and stars some of the best cartoon characters of all time!
its about f*cking time $E stopped wasting the series on handhelds and brought it back to its home!
