We recently expressed our displeasure at the idea of Bayonetta 2 on the Wii U , as did about a thousand other die-hard fans of the original.
The backlash was big enough to prompt a response from Platinum Games CEO Tatsuya Minami, who posted an update over at the studio's blog , where he worried about alienating those hardcore followers.
That being said, he argued that the move was important to the leggy witch's future and added that in fact, "the console games market is in a state of upheaval," which translates to rough roads for intended new franchises. There is, however, no chance that Platinum will abandon Bayonetta , even if the fans still question this new alliance with Nintendo. As Minami wrote:
"Bayonetta is a brand that we want to see become stronger, reaching the hands of more and more gamers, so we have continued to consult with Sega, the previous game's publisher, on how we can make sure this takes place. Our answer was a new partnership with Nintendo."
Minami appears to be a fan of Nintendo's dedication to the industry and as we all know, with Sega dropping out, Platinum didn't have much of a choice. I will still maintain that this endeavor will be problematic for multiple reasons but hey, I'm not a developer. And I do hope Bayonetta continues forward; the first featured quite possibly the most in-depth, intricate, and rewarding combat mechanic of the generation.
And of course, that hot witch is easy on the eyes.

I understand that it was the only way to bring Bayo back to life at this time but I don't see it thriving or even surviving on Wii U. I'm sure the console will be popular but it's hard to square those two demographics in my mind. Not to mention you need a real controller for that combat mechanic.
Actually the Wii U will have a real controller this time though except I think you have to buy it separately.
I read that you get 1 controller with the game, but a 2nd controller will set you back an additional $150.
That's crazy, a controller controller that's damned 1/2 the cost of the whole original Wii-U setup.
Or it's almost about the same cost as a decent arcade stick for any other system.
I'm talking about a real controller, not the tablet controller. One that is akin to the Dualshock or the Xbox controller.
cLoudou,
Oh, I guess I misunderstood you.
I hope so too, & let's hope that a regular controller will work with the majority of games.
I know I couldn't get my regular Wii controller to work with any of my games.
And I hated my Wimote+.
No matter how I tried to change the sensitivity, my game screen still spun round & round at the slightest movement, so I just stopped playing on on the Wii altogether.
The classic controller pro and wii motes are all compatible with the wii u. 🙂
have you ever used the classic controller pro? That thing is just about the worst excuse for a dual analog stick controller I have ever laid my hands on. I have ps1 controllers made by mad catz that are better than that thing
Unless Nintendo re-spec'd the devices, you can only have one tablet controller and any number of regular controllers on the WiiU.
I think they actually did change that, Highlander. I believe at this year's E3 they announced that the WiiU would now support up to two tablet controllers. However, for the US launch, tablet controllers won't be sold seperately. At least not initially.

Bayonetta is a brand that we want to see become stronger, reaching the hands of more and more gamers, so we have continued to consult with Sega, the previous game's publisher, on how we can make sure this takes place. Our answer was a new partnership with Nintendo."
That makes no sense to me… If you want the game to have access to as many gamers possible you dont make it exclusive to one system, you make it multiplatform… This guy shot himself in the foot for giving a very lame excuse.
Wait, so the reason they are bringing Bayonetta 2 exclusively to the Wii U is to let the game reach more people? Isn't that the complete opposite of what they're doing? The game's current fans are on the PS3 and the 360. So how could alienating these people (provided that they do not have any interest on the Wii U) be expanding the audience?
Why can't they just say that Nintendo saw an opportunity to score an exclusivity deal with a relatively popular game and actually took it?
"Bayonetta is a brand that we want to see become stronger, reaching the hands of more and more gamers'' Yes is so damn funny how they contradict themselves.
This… makes no sense!
All the Bayo fans have PS360s. How is making the sequel on a entirely different console (which previous console never even had the game) that will have a much lower install base going to grow the franchise?
They don't want to tell the truth, that the game was defunct and only Nintendo could help.

"Our answer was a new partnership with Nintendo"

Should have gone with the likes of Capcom, Namco or even EA or Sony.
Depends how you look at it. I mean, the WiiU is, primarily, a new audience. They're reaching new gamers and can return it to everyone with a third iteration gone multiplatform in the future. Where there's life, there's hope.
Trying to reach more audience by abandoning the originals for new?
Seems like that's the mindset for Japanese developers nowadays.
exactly what i said the other day, either it gets published by ninty IE wii u exclusive, or it does not get made at all!
yea it probably wont sell well, i think the developers have already accepted that.
but put it this way, what would you rather?
bayonetta getting a second bite of the cherry and flopping?
or bayonetta only ever getting 1 bite?
as long as this stays a true bayonetta game, which it will because clearly thats why the developers are making it!
not as a cash cow, but because they really want to work on it more.
then this being a wii u exclusive can only be a GOOD thing!
All I know is that I would have bought it if it came to PS3. But since it is on the Wii I am not going to touch it. And truthfully I think a lot of people agree with me.
I'll be getting a WiiU (usually get all consoles, but probably won't be getting an Xbox next gen), so I hope this turns out well. I still would have preferred it on a Sony console, but hey, my panties aren't in that much of a bunch.
However, considering fans of the original are PS3/Xbox owners I still think it's a stupid decision to put it on the WiiU.
i still think dropping a bunch of gamers on xbox and ps3 for an even less amount of gamers on the nintendo platform doesn't make much sense. If they wanted more gamers it would make sense to make it multiplatform. Not alienate a fanbase thats already been established. But whatever… I'm over it. It's really unfortunate but what can you do??? I just hope they don't make Vanquish 2 (I pray this game comes out) exclusive to nintendo.
And the award for the most ludicrous and unintentionally funny remark of the week goes to…
"Bayonetta is a brand that we want to see become stronger, reaching the hands of more and more gamers, so we have continued to consult with Sega, the previous game's publisher, on how we can make sure this takes place. Our answer was a new partnership with Nintendo."
Seriously? Selling a hardcore game like Bayonetta to Nintendo buyers? Are you kidding me? No offense to Nintendo fans, but let's get serious, the majority of Wii purchasers were not people that play games like Bayonetta. Nintendo is well known for targeting younger markets (and oddly with the Wii, the other end of the spectrum along with parents of the younger players. None of these demographics are core to the audience of Bayonoetta. Who's kidding who here? Money changed hands.
Considering that their last game on the wii sold very poorly that it never received a sequel. Madworld was great and I would have preferred it for the ps3. Nintendo fans tend to stick with 1st party games. So we will see how good it will actually be.
Maybe later in the future they will bring it over to the PS3, like Bioshock did.

There's no way in hell this will stay exclusive. While ninty bought the rights to help develop and publish it, they still dont own the IP itself.
Here's my prediction, Ninty is gonna pay for the development and publishing of Bayo 2, then 6-8 months later after the game sold lukewarmly, they can take an already completed and established game and easily port it over to PS3 and 360 with the funds that they have made.
Im not worried.
Hum,.. u guys arent reading what he is saying..
Obviously they cannot come to terms to publish the game w/ sega..
although it reviewed great in most sites, the sales were mediocre…
sega didnt want to publish it, nintendo snatched it up.
someone mentioned, capcom namco or ea…
it doesnt mean they wanted to publish the game either…
