The Quality Of The Fall Lineup: Inevitable And Relentless?

Your wallet is gonna get knocked for a loop this fall.

Previously, we discussed the amazing number of potentially great games scheduled to arrive over the course of the next six or seven months. But even if we dismiss everything after December 31, you're looking at a span of time that will unlikely boast a lot of disappointments.

Maybe it's just because all the developers have had plenty of years to become familiar with the available hardware. That could be it. When you look at what's going to be available between now and Christmas, it's difficult to see any title that might fall flat (thereby giving you and your wallet a break). There's no doubt that Assassin's Creed III , Medal of Honor: Warfighter , Call of Duty: Black Ops II , and Halo 4 will hit hard. But what about the others? Counting on some flops so you can breathe a little easier? Don't bother.

We've already seen a leaked review for Resident Evil 6 , scheduled for October 2. Looks pretty damn good. Any chance Dishonored , releasing the following week on the 9th, will fail to impress? Based on all the media we've seen, not likely. What about September? Well, fighting fans will be more than satisfied with Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Dead or Alive 5 . And then there's Borderlands 2 …not allowed to say much right now but trust me. It's a beast. Not only is it destined to take up a gigantic chunk of time, but it's also one of those games that seems to demand attention from both a single-player and multiplayer perspective.

And damn, you might already be playing catch up because last month, two great games came out in the same week; Darksiders II and Sleeping Dogs . As if that wasn't bad enough, this quality extends beyond the PlayStation universe; the Wii U will launch in November with a goodly assortment of games, many of which could be top-notch. And then there's the Vita, which wowed everyone at Gamescom and will be coming hard with several pieces of potentially AAA software ( Assassin's Creed III: Liberation , Tearaway , LittleBigPlanet , and Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified ). So if you've got the PS3, 360, Vita and Wii U sitting there around December…look the hell out.

Oh, and by the way, you know how you can usually rest up after Thanksgiving? December isn't typically loaded. Yeah, too bad- Far Cry 3 is set for December 4. The only good news is that then you get a break of about a month…before it all starts again in mid-January with DMC and about a million more on the Q1 horizon.
