More space is always good.
At Gamescom last month, Sony announced they'd be amping up the amount of available cloud storage for PlayStation Plus members. That time has come; the upgrade will be included in the new system update for the PlayStation 3.
As confirmed over at the PlayStation Blog , update v4.25 will update the Online Game Save Storage from 150MB to 1GB. Remember, though, you have to be a Plus member. If you are, just download the update, go to the Saved Data Utility and access the Online Storage folder. You'll find that any existing game saves have already been uploaded, and if you set your automatic download to upload every game save for every compatible title…well, that's just a nice safety net. Always a bonus.
If you aren't a Plus member yet, we strongly recommend it. Even with little activity, the membership will likely pay for itself in a short span of time.
Awesome! I have a couple of saves over 30mb each and was running out of space.
For the same price as xbox live gold, theres no denying that ps+ is a better value.

They should give the option of just cloud saving to non-Plus members also, at a much smaller fee. Though I know Plus pays for itself, I don't have time for so many games, and it'll go waste for me. And I always prefer to play from physical copies due to poor net connection here. Why should someone who just wants cloud saves, be forced to pay for other things too?

Id like to have cloud for ps3 but I have no interest in being plus member. I hope Sony has an alternative for PS4.
Why can't they have an alternative NOW?
Thats the best part about ps+! If you don't want it, you don't need it to experience your ps3 at its full potential!
But yes, I do wish you could buy so much space separately

Hmmm, I'm a plus member & have already D/L'ed the 4.25 update earlier tonight, but my Cloud storage file is still reading 68 MB used out of "150MB".
Oddly enough though, I just noticed that all my games have automatically transferred over to the cloud(even though I had turned off auto-updates, etc).
And even the demos that I had deleted days ago are now back, hiding inside my cloud.
Spooky!
UPDATE:
Ok, now my cloud's storage is reading 942MB out of 1024MB.
Holy crap, with the cloud automatically uploading all my games(even though I have it set to do each manually), I'm almost out of room already, and that's with this new 1GB update.
Guess I'm gonna be setting a new "delete" record on those same demo's that I had already deleted from my Saved Data Utility file days ago.
Even spookier!

They've probably moved the cloud storage to a new server park and transferred the data before you did the deletions. Think of it as an old backup. 🙂
Beamboom,
ya know what? I think that's a very plausible explanation, so thanks.
Maybe I don't have my own little "Ghost In The Machine" after all, LOL.
That's sweet, maybe I'll actually turn on auto cloud saving on some games now.
Does anyone know if the free games I've downloaded would be available again if I quit Plus and then started back up again later?
did you delete them while you didn't have plus? As far as I understand it, I would think you would still have access to them at any point that you are a plus member.
So long as they're in your download list they are yours, you just have to be a PS+ member to access them. I encourage everyone I talk too to at least purchase the free games so that they are on your list, you don't have to download them, and if they remove them and you didn't put it on your list you cannot get access to them, unless they make them available again down the road.
That's why I ask, I put almost everything in my list in case I want to play it later because they come and go.
World,
According to a poster that asked that same question to the PS Blog staff tonight, the answer is "YES".
Let's say you're at the end of your PS+ and you don't renew it, but 3 months later you decide to sign back up for it again.
The Blog staff said that you'll get back all the games you already had prior to you re-signing again.
Sweet, thanks for that tidbit.
On the retro front I just got a steering wheel for the ol Dreamcast today. Can't wait to take Gran Turismo 2 for a spin with Bleemcast's double resolution.

Cool,
I think I have about 2 or 3 wheels from the Dreamcast era that have 3 separate cord ends so they can be played on different consoles.
And the same with my PS2 wheels, also playable on the PS1, Xbox, Gamecube & more.
BTW, how did you get your DC up to 1080, & was it easy to do??????

I bought an upconverter that I plug the S-video cable into and then an HDMI cable from that to the TV. They are kind of expensive (around $50-$80) but I had to do it since I can use that converter for my PS2 and Xbox1 as well.
Question on deleting PS+ free games: if I dl a game, then delete it for space reasons, can I dl it again later if the game in question is no longer listed as free for PS+ members?
I'm hoping that I would be able to redownload it since it should be in my download queue.
@Tmllyjr
Look in your download manager. You should be able to re-download any prior purchases there…
so here is how it works. if you download something as a plus member you get to keep it as long as you have plus. meaning that it is in your download list as long as you have plus. you can also go to where it would be in the store and download it without having to go through your download list. deleting it from your system has no effect on you still having it other than you have to redownload it.
@world, if you happen to let your plus run out you can no longer access the content or your online saves. if you renew you get it all back. but be warned, YOU ONLY HAVE 6 MONTHS. if you go past 6 months of it not being active YOU LOSE EVERYTHING.
just remember if you want to redownload something you dont have to click through the stupid download list. just do a search for it in the store and the download button is right there.
Yeah, that's works as well…
🙂
World, thanks for the DC 411.
But, I guess I'll have a long wait to upgrade my DC, being still out of work with no money anymore these days.
This is awesome-sauce. Plus was already awesome, but this is uber.
About friggan time I ran out of room the day I got ps plus
Wait, is Jet Set Radio just the game? No HD update? Cuz I have no need to buy it again if not.
i dont think they did anything to it other than put it on the store.
That's retarded.
I am happy they finally did this…I haven't been able to turn it on for any games because the space was far too limited. Sure in theory 150MB seems like it is a decent amount, but if you have even one Bethesda game there goes that. The 1GB is probably not gonna be enough for me, but it is a whole lot better then the previous amount.
I needed this in a bad way. I had to limit what I put in the cloud b/c I was running out of room. Plus just keeps getting better and better.
The 1GB of cloud space for saves is awesome. It's just another reason for Plus to be compelling. I mean with the free games, and all the free to keep DLC, avatars and themes as well as the discounted games, Plus is more than adequate value for money. Actually, it's a steal.
I see Sony finally bumped the firmware to 1.80 for the Vita as well on their website in the US. It had been stuck at 1.69 until yesterday, unlike the rest of the world…
