When role-playing fanatics talk about the history of the genre, many will put Final Fantasy at the top of the franchise list. And rightfully so.
But for a lot of us, only one acclaimed series can be runner-up, and that's Suikoden , which debuted on the original PlayStation fifteen years ago and reached Suikoden V on the PS2 last generation. Since that time, however, along with the general decline and falling off of the niche genre this generation, we haven't seen a new installment for consoles.
And we may never again. Chances are, if Konami ever opts to bring it back, it'll be on a portable or mobile device, because such games aren't seen as full-budget productions anymore. But that doesn't mean the fans can't try. Case in point: The Suikoden Revival Facebook page, where the loyal followers are trying to remind Konami that yeah, they still exist, and yeah, they'd be more interested in a new Suikoden than another Call of Duty or even Final Fantasy . So step up and support the cause, and maybe your voice will be heard…
revival? pretty sure a new suikoden was announced for psp (or vita), though Im sure itll be japan only 🙁
Yea, I remember that too. Hopefully it is localized for other areas.
But a console version would be sweet.
A Suikoden revival would be pretty cool, but if I had to choose a JRPG series I would go for the revival of the Xeno (gears and saga) games. I actually start to drool a bit when I think about how Xeno would look on the current gen of consoles. What an awesome world, all in glorious HD.
Uh oh…vision going blurry…gotta stop thinking about it…overloaded with awesomeness…GAH!
I'm OK. Felt like I was struck with lightning for a second though. Is that normal?
Yea, I'll support this pitiful little band!
(Emperor Palpatine referred to the rebels on Endor moon as a pitiful little band but we saw what they could accomplish eh? 😉

Done and done. Nevermind the futility, I will never let the JRPG dream die.
Personally i would be more then happy to pay 30 something for some new turn base rpg with ps1 graphics offered on psn .
I still put more time on ps1 rpg then those released on later console anyway .
I wouldn't be more happy doing that but I'd be happy with it if it's as good as Suikoden has been in the past.
I've never played any of these games, there real rarities here in the UK – I don't think we even got the 3rd game at all.
To be honest the structure of acquiring 100+ characters seems a bit much, I prefer games which have a small and more focused cast, but as I said I haven't played them, so maybe they handle it well.
Speaking only for the first game the main story line is focused on a small cast of characters. I questioned too how working with 100+ characters could be done, but it does it well.
They are great game, the stars of destiny are optional. In today's lingo they are trophies more than anything, however having extra people to fight on your side helps a lot.
yeah, but trophies don't expand your storyline, world 😉
sigh, maybe today is the big day for PSN with Suikoden II. This iPhone version of the original Final Fantasy can be annoying (wishes I had a d-pad and real buttons), don't know if I want to keep playing it.
Apparently trophies do these days if you need a certain multiplayer rating to get a certain ending *rolls eyes at ME3*
well that's crap'tastic.
but the next best going happened today on PSN: SHINOBI
That's right SHINOBI for PS2.
I was sort of hoping for a Shinobi and Nightshade collection, but oh well.
Woo hoo, ninja awesome'ness to the max =)
I haven't played a Shinobi in fourteen thousand years!
I cant understand why they wont put Suikoden 2 on the PSN network. To me, the ps1 Suikoden's have always been the best of the series.
But then again, they dont even have the old PS1 Vandal Heart series on it either.
Eh, I don't have or want a Facebook.
I hate facebook too and refuse to be part of it.
I'm all over this one. SII is one of my Top 3 PS1 RPGs and the series itself is easily one of my favorites (and one of few I've beaten every entry of). When I heard that the Suikoden team had been disbanded I was heartbroken, particularly after a PSP entry had been announced at TGS '11. Hopefully a strong enough show of support will warrant some activity to this beloved franchise.
They should remake Suikoden 3 into HD and add voice acting
