Maintenance And Upgrade For Store And Network

Thanks to Sony's semi-official ThreeSpeech blog and a posting at the official European PlayStation community , we've learned that Sony is preparing to do some upgrading and maintenance work on the PlayStation Network and Store. Supposedly, this is for several "new and exciting changes" scheduled for the Store, although we don't know what they are just yet.

This work will take place between 16:00 and 19:00 BST (17:00-20:00 CEST) on Tuesday, May 8. During this time, the Network and Store won't be available for accessing, but if you're involved in an online game at the start time, you should be able to play to completion. However, if you want to start up a new game, you'll have to wait until they're done and full service is restored.

Of course, the big question is: what are these enhancements for the Store? It's been a big bright spot for the PS3 since it launched last year, as we've seen a steady stream of updates ranging from demos to trailers to full downloadable titles. And just recently, they finally allowed PS1 classics to be playable on the PS3, so what's next? Does it have anything to do with the arrival of the Home Beta Trial that a few users have already seen at the Store? Well, it seems we'll just have to wait until next week to find out…
