As good as the game was, it's probably a bad sign when a LEGO game tops the sales charts for any given month.
The NPD results are in for June, and LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes topped the charts in a month that saw overall sales decline 29%.
The LEGO-fied Batman game sold 450,000 units all-told, while the Game of the Year Edition of Batman: Arkham City landed at the #6 spot. The well-received Ghost Recon: Future Soldier was the sales runner-up, while Diablo III came in third and Max Payne 3 grabbed the fourth slot. Hardware sales plummeted 45%, software sales were down 29%, and only the accessories went up, posting a 4% increase. Got your PlayStation Move yet?
So why are the numbers way down? Well, NPD analyst Anita Frazier reminds us that in the first half of 2012, we saw 34% fewer titles than in the first six months of 2011. That's telling. Well, maybe fall will be better.
Wow that is pitiful, I mean I know summer is usually bleak but you'd think all the people who don't have class might go spend some cash on gaming. Can't exactly do much outside this summer.
exactly why i keep saying 2012 has been a MASSIVE disappointment!
all the games i was looking forward too have been delayed, and 99% of them which have not been delayed and are out ended up a massive disappointment!
ME3 for instance, ME2 is my most favourite game this gen such a amazing beautiful game!
ME3 though, well, i have not been so disappointed by a game since GTA IV released!
its sad, by this time last year we had SO many GOTY contenders!
portal 2, crysis 2, dead space 2, LA Noire just to name a few.
this year, well, so far the best game ive played is uncharted golden abyss!
yes a vita game, god that is so depressing!
goes to show how disappointing this year has been!
what really confuses me though is for the summer period, June – July this year we have had both more games releasing and better ones!
yet were down on last years sales.
how does that work?>
so inconsistent, the first 4 months were down on sales compared to last year and thats because theres not as many games and there not as good.
then june, july turn up and again its down on last year but this time its because we have more and better games?
what the!?
i mean this june we had spec ops the line, the amazing spiderman, R&C trilogy, gravity daze, lego batman 2, and the PC had MP3 and ghost recon future soldier.
a hell of allot more, and better games than last june!
so how does that work?
jan – april is down over last year because theres not as many games releasing, and what does is of lower quality.
than june – july turns up and same again sales down over last year but this time its because theres more games and better quality.
huh………………..?
