Slant Six Hit With “Temporary” Layoffs

No, the game wasn't very good at all , but it still managed to sell well.

And yet, despite those sales, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City developer Slant Six has been forced to reduce their workforce by more than 25% .

Employees were given the option of taking a severance package or accepting the terms of a "temporary layoff" as the studio tries to kick off more projects. Those who go with the latter option will still have access to employment insurance and they'll receive their extended benefits for 13 weeks. But at the end of that time, if the developer can't rehire them, the layoff goes from temporary to permanent. Here's the company's official statement:

"Regretfully, we can confirm that there have been some temporary layoffs at our studio. We must stress that these are temporary layoffs, which means we are working very hard on new business prospects so we can reinstate every single person affected. As an independent and close-knit studio it is a very difficult but necessary business measure due to the current project cycle demands."

A representative confirmed that most of the 26 affected employees chose the temporary layoff option, while the remaining 70 keep working on current titles. This includes "a collaborative game venture with a major publisher" and a self-published effort, Strata Scavenger . Let's hope these turn out well.
