Ben-DutkaIt's not surprising to hear Activision talk highly of the new Call of Duty: Black Ops II . Publishers are supposed to promote their product, after all.
But did you know that Activision expects the upcoming sequel to offer the most/biggest entertainment ever seen on a single gaming disc? That's what Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg told The Hollywood Reporter ; he says the game will simply be a tremendous value:
"Call of Duty games already deliver a tremendous amount of value. There are several different modes of play. There’s the single-player campaign mode which is like playing in an action movie. There’s the multiplayer mode, which people literally play all year long with their friends — it’s got a tremendously long tail. There’s co-op mode, where you can play with a couple of different friends. And then Treyarch has always had this zombie zone, where you can stop playing the regular game and you can fight against the undead. Black Ops 2 is going to offer a more expansive and more robust zombie experience than it ever has before. It’s almost like a game within a game. When you add all that together, it’s just a tremendous value. It might be one of the best values ever put on a single disk."
Well, there's no doubt the multiplayer aspect alone will deliver countless hours of entertainment for the fans. So that all by itself makes Hirshberg's bold statement at least partially true. And considering that Treyarch usually gives us a relatively lengthy and satisfying campaign, perhaps it isn't such a stretch to make those claims. I mean, regardless of whether your love or hate the franchise.

The Orange Box was, although a bundle of some of this generations best games, filled with bugs and glitches on the consoles. So, I wouldn't exactly consider the console versions of Orange Box to be valuable.
The Orange Box wasn't even ported by Valve. I don't get why anyone would buy it on consoles when the games on it ran fine on a cheap computer.
I've got a pretty good computer but it won't run those games cuz of the basic graphics card. A graphics card seems like a terrible investment when I own a PS3.

If you had a Desktop you could run anything on the OrangeBox with a $50 graphics card. Hell when it first came out I was able to run it on my parent's rather dated Dell.
No I've got a nice desktop, I suppose I could try to play it. I've tried some less graphics intensive games like duke nukem forever and two worlds but it's a no go even on the worst resolution.
@Worlds, do you have an integrated Intel graphics card, such as the Intel GMA?
The Source Engine, which is the engine that powers all current Valve video games, is not compatible with most Intel video cards.
Valve's steam engine can run on just about any computer.
@LimitedVertigo, Steam isn't a game engine, it's a distribution platform. Valve uses the Source engine to power their games. Source is also being used in the new Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. (and was used in Counter-Strike: Source, hence the name)
Although Source is a fairly sturdy engine, and is capable of a lot. It does not function correctly on Intel graphics cards. That's why if you're using an Intel card, or even some cards that are integrated into your system, Valve games simply will not run on your computer.
I'm not entirely sure why Intel cards are not supported, as they can run other games without performance issues. You would think Valve would update their engine to be compatible with Intel graphics cards.
I misspoke. I'm aware that it is the Source engine. While there may be issues with Intel cards it is widely known that Valve's Source engine can run on a wide range of computers. I don't know of another PC engine capable of running on low end computers like Source does.
Activision is lucky that Treyarch made such a fun Zombie mode. It's the only reason I might pick this game up, providing it still has splitscreen.
They got a smart plan. Everyone loved COD4 so copy paste and here's MW2. Then Bops which is something new and so everyone had to try that out. Then oh same garbage but.. its the finale so gota get that (MW3). Now Bops2 people gonna buy that cuz its got dedicated zombies mode and should have a "good" campaign. Gotta give them props for their marketing strategy.
I mean really… You could say that about most online multiplayer games. Even average mp games you can sink a couple hundred hours into. This really isn't saying too much in my eyes. ahh oh well. I'll probably be playing MOH or dare i say it Crysis 3 if it drops this year. I know… wishful thinking.
They really meant it was the best value for them. Just imagine the tons of dough they will make recycling.
A single player mode that last like 6hrs. An game engine that's never been updated in forever. Yeah best game Value out there. I'll pass, like I have since Modern Warfare 2.
tremendous value for the die hard COD fans, and + all the DLC won't be free.

Actually, the coop missions that were included a while ago (was it mw1?) were pretty good and varied, and indeed added value to that package. Plus, I've always thought the single player campaigns were pretty fun.
Essentially I agree with Activision here. It *is* a tremendous package if the core game is your cup of tea.
if you pump hundreds of hours into online play – then yes – $60 is fantastic value – if you only play campaign – borrow it from a buddy

I don't like the thing, but yeah technically there's a lot on that disc. You are going to have to buy a lot more DLC if you want to keep playing online though, that's the hitch.

I've always been taught that the only time disc is spelt with a k is when referring to magnetic media, in all other instances disc ends with a c. What gives Hollywood Reporter?

blockbuster campaign, co-op and constantly updated MP!
that is exactly why COD sells so well and is so popular, because its one of the only games that gets supported so well!
KZ3 for instance had such a awesome MP mode i freaking loved playing that game online!
but it flopped big time because GG did not support it properly.
