E3 2012: “The Greatest Minds” In The Industry Are At Sony

Sony's E3 2012 press conference is under way and SCEA president Jack Tretton is on the stage right now.

As gamers, we should all appreciate this introduction: Firstly, Jack thanks everyone who has made the industry possible and of course, that's the interested consumer. Then he says Sony is home to the "greatest minds in the industry," and we have to agree with that. After viewing Beyond: Two Souls from Quantic Dream, Tretton reminded us of that awesome "Michael" commercial before diving into PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale .

It's nice to see a company thanking the consumer, isn't it? And we have to believe that indeed, the most innovative and intelligent minds in the business side with Sony (at least, in regards to a few of the major exclusive titles), because we keep seeing PlayStation-only experiences that trump just about anything else out there in a variety of different categories. So yeah, right back at ya, Jack.

Jack Tretton can't stop beaming with pride with the positive reaction from the crowd this early in the conference. And why not? He has all the reasons to be. Beyond, PlayStation All-Stars, and Assassin's Creed III + Liberation all started the show in roll. Let's not forget about PS Plus too!

It's funny, the most immature minds (CliffyB) side with MS.

That's odd. I've seen you online as recently as an hour ago and yesterday too, I think, playing WKC2 (of course).

Sony showed some fantastic looking games. No megatons.

I think he's just tired of the pompous marketing speeches. And if so then I agree. It becomes "bla bla bla" pretty fast for me too.

Fane,

I wasn't able to be on my PC at all over the weekend or yesterday, and my PS3 stopped reading BluRay on Sunday. Since I'm a guild leader in WKC2, I kinda have to be on daily to at least check membership requests and the like. So I borrowed a system for that.

Beamboom, yes I am tired of pompous marketing speeches – which Jack Tretton does very well. What I mean is that he manages to pull of the quite interesting trick of being both pompous, and yet still manages to convey information and hit some highlights. Normally a pompous marketing speech is just that, and nothign else. But, yeah, there is only so much tooting your own horn I can suffer right now.

Still I would appreciate a quick summary of what went on…

Thx beam. Hopefully I will be back up and running properly tonight, but my BluRay challenged system has a date with Sony.

High,

Aside from my (admittedly terse) summary in my first comment, I really think there isn't anything to report if you can't watch the game demos. Sony really didn't announce anything we didn't already know or couldn't guess.

You *can* download 12 free games that don't require a functional Blu-ray drive.

typical $ony it just would not be E3 without them pulling out the gorilla and beating the chest!
if theres one company that is better than everyone at showing off and whipping it out and grabbing the ruler its $ony!
its a shame all of the sh*t that spews out of jacks mouth is never true!
only if false advertisement was illegal, he would of been done years ago!

What a retarded reaction. If there is one time and place for a company to pull out their junk and measure it with gorilla-like gusto it's E3.

oh the irony, the irony of it all!
E3 is for showing games, not talking out of your a$$!

It's for pushing product. Creating buzz and being over the top is what it takes. E3 is the ultimate in self promotion for the industry. You would fail harshly in the highly competitive gaming world should you yourself ever have the incredible good fortune to create a gaming company. I suppose you would simply show your lil game and walk off stage? Can't take a little Sony bombast? Aw.

Well, from what I understand, Sony's E3 was games, games, games. Not sure what Nintendo did, I presume it was WiiU wall to wall, and from what I've been told MS talked alot about integration with their smartphones and tables and used buzzwords like SmartGlass(TM) a lot, but showed precious little in the way of games.

So, if E3 is about games, that would mean that Sony showed up and at least one of the others really did not?

That message from Jack Tretton was aimed at all the fanboys out there as he knows how passionate they are. Delusional is more like it.

Yes they are behind some great games but let's not be sucking each others *****. Sony has fallen sharply this generation, he knows it, I know it, most know it. It's always the fanboys who put on the bravest face while being in a life-long sentence of denial.

Keep up the good work Ben, one day they'll actually pay you for your efforts.

Umm..well, yes…whatever. But, since you seem to wish to adopt the mantle of the 'anti-fanboy'; I should point out that if you are the opposite of a fanboy (Sony presumably), then you're just as pig headed, extreme and in denial about your own opinions as those you deride.

I thought E3 went well for Sony, and theres nothing wrong to be a happy CEO like Jack He realizes without consumers Sony wouldn't be around so it was nice that he said thank you to us>
