We all figured the talented Burnout gurus at Criterion Games were working on a new Need for Speed .
And it's definitely coming: EA has announced that a follow-up effort to 2005's entertaining Need for Speed: Most Wanted is on the way.
We don't have any further information at this time but unsurprisingly, the game should focus heavily on cop chases. The premise of Most Wanted was both simple and invigorating- Daring racers the world over competed to become the most respected and notorious street racer around. Standing in their way were a bevy of equally determined drivers and a bunch of annoying police cars. Chances are, the new title will be a mix of the old style and Hot Pursuit , Criterion's last NFS installment, which launched to warm critical reception in 2010.
EA's E3 press conference is slated for June 4, 1 p.m. PST, so expect to hear more about this one at that time.
I miss it when need for speed was more like underground 2, I even recall falling asleep playing the first most wanted and for some reason I just found it immensely boring.
Ill get this for sure because I love Criterion I hope the next game is Burnout because its long over due.
i really wanted a new burnout instead.
Yeah, not sure what's going on here. It's either Criterion volunteering to re-make these NFS titles, or EA is really trying to lift the NFS franchise back to its glory after the few horrible attempts like Undercover and The Run, which were all not developed by Criterion. I get the feeling if they do this one right, Criterion might also be in charge of other NFS remakes like Underground, otherwise they really need to get back to Burnout at some point or another.
No offense to Criterion, but I hope they make this one right. By that I mean police chases that are intense and more realistic (without all the powerups, except for maybe juggernut) and a free-roam that's not so bland, repetitive or empty. I am one of the few that was not that impressed by their hot pursuit because to me, free-roam on that game was almost useless and races had no exciting jumps for whatever reason. I do have a bit of confidence in them though, as long as there isn't too much "burnout" elements on it.
Forgot to add that I hope there are some customizations, or even cockpit view on this, both in which Criterion are not known for imo. It's important to me because the only thing Most Wanted edges Midnight Club on is the police chases. If races in Most Wanted were like the Midnight Club series, wow. It doesn't have to be exactly (in fact it shouldn't), but there's no free roam driving quiet like Midnight Club.
With GTAV on the horizon, please announce MC5 soon Rockstar!!
Can't wait. Loved Most Wanted, but I am surprised it took this long for a sequel. 7 years is too long for a sequel.
alright, finally another NFS Most Wanted game.
No. Give me Burnout or give me death!
Here, here! I could not agree more! This is really disappointing news. While I'm sure the folks at Criterion are super excited to be entrusted with another NFS project from EA, they seem to be ignoring their Burnout fanbase.
I have not spent more time playing one game online than I did with Burnout Paradise. No other game I've played allowed for more friendly team work and cooperative online play. I can't think of another game where you could just get together with friends and spend an entire evening driving around Paradise City doing different stunts – trying to get the longest jump or the more flatspins or barrel rolls.
Hot Pursuit was fun, but it just was not Burnout fun.
I just needed to redact my previous entry.
After a much close inspection of the E3 video (in HD) and a look at multiplayer footage, there is no doubt in my mind that this is Burnout Paradise 2.
Numbered billboards, security gates (fences), jumps, plus a couple more categories of items/events to find. There are no menus or lobbies (just like BP) and there is an entire playlist of competitive online events. The only thing missing now is whether they'll be any barrel rolls or flatspins, but I suspect we'll see some footage of that at some point.
SWEET!
ive been wanting a most wanted sequel for years now!
by far the best game in the series!
it actually released on PSN a few weeks ago been playing it a little here and there.
i hope they keep everything EXACTLY the same!
from the cop chases, to the races, to even the rewards for defeating each most wanted member.
it was so nerve racking having to choose one of the 3 markers hoping you picked the right one.
oh and make sure their randomly generated that way people cant post which has which online!
I really miss the first Need For Speed. That was probably one of the most "realistic" high speed games I can think of. Once you break 120MPH, you "swept" the curves… And just barely… On narrow roads that reflected much more of the types of roads we really have.
Then again, I couldn't tell you when I played that game last. All I remember is fond memories.
