March 07 NPD: Market Growth Numbers

In the fourth, and final, bombardment of sales numbers, the
NPD has also released figures showing the drastic increase of the
market. During this Q1 period (Jan-March 2007), the videogame
industry grew 54%, as total game-related sales amounted to
$3.3-billion, as opposed to last year's Q1 total of $2.2-billion.

Per category, hardware sales shot up 94%, with two new consoles
on the market: $1.3B, compared to $659M in Q1 2006. Overall
software sales accumulated to $1.6B from $1.3B, a respectable 30%
increase over last year's figure. And game accessory sales soared
61% with $479-million, up from $297-million in Q1 2006.
