This is a legitimate question as it applies to this year.
For just about every year this generation, PlayStation 3 owners could point to at least one exclusive that was bound to make a big splash. From Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots to God of War III to Heavy Rain to Gran Turismo 5 to either of the last two Uncharted , Killzone , and LittleBigPlanet titles, PS3 owners have typically been able to embrace something that might make Xbox 360 fans green with envy.
But this year, it almost seems as if PS3 owners only have a bevy of multiplatform titles to look forward to. The Last Of Us has a tentative placeholder date of December 31, which probably means it won't arrive in 2012, God of War IV (which will almost undoubtedly be revealed in a few days) may not launch until next year, and even Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch got pushed. Many of the biggest games are multi; i.e., Bioshock Infinite , Assassin's Creed III , Borderlands 2 , Max Payne 3 , Resident Evil 6 , Medal of Honor: Warfighter , Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 (not official but probable), and maybe even Grand Theft Auto V .
Some will say the best PS3 exclusive of 2012 is actually already here; it's Thatgamecompany's masterful Journey . But we're not quite to the point where digital offerings, regardless of how amazing they are, will likely vie for the ultimate Game of the Year prize. And yeah, it's already out. So unless we're counting on some pretty incredible Vita software – which is decidedly possible – it makes sense to ask: Might PS3 fans be just a little jealous of Halo 4 , which has now been confirmed for November 6? They usually have an exclusive (or two, or three) to compete but 2012 looks thin in terms of PS3-only software.
Yes, we'll get Starhawk , Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time , and we also already have Twisted Metal , but there's nothing to the level of Halo 4 . Heck, if you look at Nielsen's poll of the most anticipated 2012 titles, all of the top 10 PS3 games are multiplatform! And that just isn't normal for Sony's platform, where exclusives often have a chance of ruling, if not the sales charts, the review charts, for any given year. So yeah, it's okay to admit a bit of jealousy…then again, if Halo 4 turns out like crap and only proves the gap between the 360 and PS3 has continued to widen, then even the admittedly jealous will change their tune.
Yeaaaaaa, no. The multiplayer games along with the Wii U are more than enough. Besides, Halo was fun 10 years ago. Halo 2 – Reach…not so much.
You mean multi platform.
My neighbor invites me over to play halo every once in awhile. I get bored to tears. Good for the people that like it though. I'll stick with my ps3 exclusives thank you. The fact that there is a dry spell right now is much needed for me as my backlog is way too large.
Indeed. Stupid iPhone auto correction.
I just can't get into anymore. It feels generic, the gameplay lacks any kind of notable improvement and as of Reach, you still can't aim down the sites for most guns. I mean c'mon!
I dunno, Jawk. Give credit where credit is due. halo is only one of two titles I wish was on PS3.
Can't do it. I find it to be one of the most overrated shooters of all time.

Gotta mostly side with Jawknee on this one. I like Halo still, but it hasn't been great since the first one (which absolutely blew me away at the time.) Video games have evolved so much in the last dozen years and to appease fans, Halo has clung to increasingly dated gameplay mechanics. Will I play Halo 4? Probably. I'm not a hater, I dig the tech (even if it's not particularly inspired)and I'm usually up for a sci-fi shooter romp. But if I didn't have a 360 I really wouldn't sweat missing it.

Halo was never fun to me. The jump action should never be the most viable weapon in a FPS.
Hell no. Halo has never really been good since after the first 2. Which I personally didn't even like. However, there's still an ace up Sony's sleeve. I guarantee it. Not to mention all the Vita exclusives. They still count to me.
I'm super excited for Halo 4, Halo has always been one of my favorite series. You have to wonder if Sony is holding those exclusives for the next gen console to have another huge launch line up just like the Vita, that's my take on it. But I think the Last of Us will be enough once we finally see gameplay.
Can't forget that the Witcher 2 just came out on the Xbox too, although not a true exclusive, it is for console owners. Xbox lineup isn't too shabby this year. PS3 is by no means bad either.
Speaking of slow PC to console conversions, I've noticed a distinct lack of information on Metro: Last Light.
thats because metro was pushed back till next year.
f*cking love the witcher 2, playing it right now!
We just posted a few things on it over at Only SP, Metro Last Light. Can't wait to see more of that one.
i played the 1st on the PC was not that fun is 2 better on game play?
truthfully I havent even touched a halo game, even when i had a 360. just never saw anything that made me want to try. Honestly…I dont want a god of war…not this soon anyways. It doesnt feel too long that gow3 came out. though a 2013 release wouldnt be so bad i guess. wait…what was the topic again. yea…halo..eh
I think PS-only fans have long since written Halo off from their desire list, what with Crysis, Resistance, Killzone, the upcoming StarHawk, and the whole gazillion other genre similar games out there to fill the hole.
Myself being a day one Halo fan will most definately play Halo 4. Things are iffy with it now that it's not in the hands of Bungie. But seeing that Halo has been through the iteration machine for some time now, perhaps some fresh, but highly experienced, blood may make Halo 4 something relatively different, for better or worse. I have little doubt MS will spare any expense to make Halo 4 everybit as great with highly talented folks.
I still think Halo 4 should've been saved for some newer more powerful hardware. Oh well, that's for Halo 5, right?
oh, and techically I was a Day -1 Halo fan =p
The Software Etc. guy popped the game in for me pre-day launch. I played through the first level, and then some ways into the second playing at the KIOSK. I was totally blown away. Consoles could actually DO an FPS without it sucking.. yes, there was time things were that way 😉
I played 1 & 2 (still have em) but things sort of changed with the next hardware iteration. I think they have to keep making Halos or MS wouldn't have any first party games.
They have first party games, they're just all KINECT games, save it be for Halo and Forza. They basically gave up on their core leaving them to the 3rd parties while they've gone to make crummy games with a flawed interface.
that reminds me, they did that also to their original XBox fans. AFter 4 short years they pulled the plug on the Xbox and moved everything over to a new $300-400 flawed and overheat prone machine.
It still amazes me that gamers just kept buying more 360's one failure after the next. It was like an annual console release for some 😉

No joke, I overheard some GameStop nerds talking about all the Xbox's they went through and yet one of them said he couldn't wait to pick up the new Modern Warfare 3 bundle after having just bought the Gears of War 3 bundle. Lol!
Sorry bro. Playstation does not have any shooters that are as good or successful as the Halo franchise.
Oh, is that right Palps?
Specifics?
Specifics outside of sales 😉
I'm another day-1 Halo fan, too. I love those games. And while Bungie is no longer making them, I do believe the 343 has many on the team that were former Bungie employees who worked on the franchise. I can't wait for the game to come out. Split-screen, LAN party Halo days are always a good time, in my opinion.
Give me a BREAK. Resistance and Killzone FTW.
Oh c'on. Comparing the mediocre Resistance and the so so Killzone to Halo is a joke.
I know those are the PS exclusive FPS and you want them to be recognized but seriously they are a far cry from Bungie's Halos and it shows sales wise.
Now let's see if 343 Industries Halo 4 can live up to it's name and hype.
You asked for specifics, so here we go.. I hope you are a numbers person like me.
Since we can all agree that metacritic.com is the best resource to get a general consensus on the quality of a game, let's use that site.
If you factor in all 5 original halo shooters on Xbox and Xbox 360, the overall metacritic score is 92.
If you only count this generations Halo shooters, it is a score of 89.
Resistance has 3 games on the PS3, overall metacritic is 85.
I'm not even going to bother checking Killzone because I know that not only is it lower in sales but it is lower on metacritic. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out..I played the damn games.
So not only is Halo better received by critics but it sells better than Killzone and Resistance.
Right. There was never any bias toward Halo in the gaming media. No, that never happened.
Halo has always been great. It has also been one of the most overrated franchises in the history of gaming.
Resistance one of a kind story and weapons made that game rock
sadly 3 did bad
More and more people have the two consoles for exclusive titles. Ps3 is my top choice but I won't miss out on Halo 😀 I love doing the Halo games in couch coop. The MP is one of the only I have fun in aswell. As long as they keep the 2 player couch coop and get an interesting story I will get it for sure 😀
There might not be any real huge exclusives coming this year but there have been sooooo many that came out in the past couple of years my backlog is quite large as I'm sure lots of other people's is as well. Therefore everybody should be ok on the game front for a while.
I am in no way jealous of Halo 4. I'm jealous of all the free time people who solely own an Xbox have. 🙂 Just kidding but you know what I mean.

Never was. An less when some Halo fans are already mad at the changes(apparently they are making this like CoD game)
I always enjoy some split-screen halo or gears at my friend's house. New maps and new entries are entirely welcome!
Where is Resistance 4? The only Resistance I liked 3 and they closed the series.
I wouldn't say PS3 owners have anything to be jealous about at all. We've had some of the best lineups over the years, that there's plenty to be satisfied with.
But let's talk about Halo. New developer, and its the 4th entry in a mp centric genre. Nothing really to get worked up over. Halo was fun, but Bungie isn't at the helm anymore, and there's way too much competition. Halo has CoD to worry about, why should PS3 owners be jealous over a game that has that much competition? To me it's boring…
Doesn't mean it won't be a good game though. Halo has a large following and it will sell well. But it's not anything I'm really, really wanting as a PS3 owner. All those multiplatform games are going to be more that enough, and Halo 4 won't even be in the mix.

Honestly, the campaign in Halo is almost as important as the MP. It's one of the better stories with more drawn out characters in the first person genre and to me what sells it is the amazing music in the series.
I also loved the music! Those gun fights were something special hearing that wonderful music in the background.
well, if Halo 4 is going to be anything like Halo 3. there'll be nothing to be jealous
about.
Long time reader, first post.
I was never a big halo fan, just couldn't get into it. I'd prefer gears of war or KZ any day of the week, even the beloved Call of Duty over Halo, lol. Black ops of course.
dude awesome avatar old school leaf symbol love it!
<shakes fist> 🙂
haha well at least your in the Playoffs. even if it ain't for much longer (Preds went up 3-1 tonight)
Not many will. It's not the power player it once was.
There's not exactly a dirth of AAA space marine shooters anymore, y'know? Credit Halo for being the first one to really get the genre going — FPS and third person sci fi shooters owe a TON to the original Halo's design, feel, campaign structure, etc. — but it's just not even a little original anymore.
Um…NO
Couldn't care less. Halo needed to end without Bungie and 3 was a disappointment (didn't play Reach or ODST). Have no interest, the story is being milked and this a pointless sequel. Even if no games came out for PS3 this year, I really don't give two you know whats about Halo 4 because it's a pointless sequel in a series whose story should be complete.
Also I got my big PS3 exclusive this year and that was Twisted. Not the best game of all time or even to the level of Black or 2, but a damn classic multiplayer and solid single player effort still has me playing on a regular basis and will keep me hooked for years.
Also, Journey was great and outclasses the hell out of Halo 4. Even though Journey isn't on the same scale as Halo 4, I'm willing to bet my tuition that when it's all said and done, Journey will be a better game.
Looking forward to Sly 4, hopefully The Last of Us and The Last Guardian (wishful thinking I know), but yes in the long run, 2012 is a somewhat reserved year for PS3 exclusives.
Still, with Starhawk, Sly 4 GOW IV (possibly), The Last of Us (possibly) and The Last Guardian (doubtful) on the horizon, this will be a good year for the PS3. Even if it's just Starhawk and Sly 4 left with a few others thrown out there, the PS3 will still represent itself well.

I saw the graphics for halo 4 looks like borderlands. I laughed for awhile because its obvious the gap has widened i mean no offense to borderlands but Halo was supposed to be realistic not cartoonish. In all honesty Halo 2 and from there sucked. I was a huge fan of halo 1 it was a true fps changer for me but afterwards it somehow got boring. So im personally not jealous at all. A little off topic but, PC has a ton of Exclusives that i am pretty jealous of. The new Amnesia being one of them.
Halo Reach looks like a game from 2007 and even then Uncharted: Drake's Fortune looks better than Reach. So it doesn't surprise me that 4 is lacking in the visual department.
I can't believe there was no mention of DUST514 in the article, seriously!! That is by far one of the most innovative projects to date with console gaming and its exclusive to the PS3 for this year. Seriously if you sat in and watched all the info and videos from fanfest and don't see this game as a great exclusive for this year then you either hate FPSs(which is fine) or your a fool.
I cannot believe no one mentioned this, not in the article and not in the posts, WOW! Disappointing day for me:(
Dude…it's just a MMOFPS.
I'm not sure what's so innovative about it besides maybe the scale.
