God Of War IV Retail Box Says The Game Is A “Shooter”

There could be so many things wrong with this…and yet, it's just so worth discussing.

In general, retailers have to have a tentative release date in order to take pre-orders for any given title. Sometimes, the date is nothing more than a placeholder but currently, as far as we know, retailers don't even have that for God of War IV .

IGN reader Tyla Daniels has given the Internet food for thought: You can see the screenshot in question right here; it comes from a BT Games location in Johannesburg, South Africa and obviously, it's for the sake of drumming up GoWIV pre-orders. This does make some sense, as many believe the game will be revealed on April 19 .

Still, there are a few problems. Firstly, that logo isn't official and has been floating around for a little while now. Secondly, the box says it's a "shooter," which either means Sony made a gargantuan mistake and turned the revered franchise into a FPS, or it's just an error made by the retailer. We're going to have to assume it's the latter. Then again, maybe the whole thing is just a fabrication, which isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Well, we don't have much longer to wait, as April 19 looms large. That's presuming the game Sony has to announce really is the fourth God of War but at this point, it seems quite likely. …it just really can't be a shooter.
