If you ever wanted to see the games industry get some serious recognition, the following is just for you: according to GamesIndustry.biz , the very first Guinness World Records – Videogame Edition 2008 is just around the corner.
The Guinness Book of World Records was first published more than 50 years ago in 1955, and every year, the latest edition sells more than 3 million copies worldwide. However, the Videogame Edition won't just list the crazy and amazing achievements in the world of gaming; it will also touch on a few other things, including reviews for the top 20 biggest games of the year, hardware profiles, sales figures, and technical achievements. Obviously, the records will be there as well- record scores, fastest times, first to accomplish a certain feat, etc.
"We reintroduced videogaming world records to our annual book a few years ago, and it’s proved to be one of the most popular sections with our core readers. It makes sense, therefore, to dedicate an entire annual to the subject," said Guinness World Records editor in chief Craig Glenday.
We think it makes sense, too, Craig. There are plenty of topics to cover each and every year, and with plenty of new games coming out all the time, records can be set and reset on a daily basis. Therefore, if anybody is thinking this will be a small book, they can think again. If you really look at what happens in the gaming industry in one year, you'll start to realize just how much content the Guinness Videogame Edition will have.
"The news that Guinness World Records has decided to produce a book devoted to games is great for both gamers and the industry," added Gibson. "It's another boost for the profile of gaming, and I'm very much looking forward to getting started."
They will officially unveil The Guinness World Records – Videogame Edition 2008 at the London Book Fair that starts on April 16 and runs through April 18.
