Diablo III “In Great Shape,” Launch Date “In The Near Future”

Oh, calm down. It's coming. No, it really is. Swear.

Not long after we got wind of yet another delay for Diablo III , game director Jay Wilson decided to appease some disappointed fans in the Blizzard forums .

He tells us that although he can't confirm a launch date right now, we can expect one "in the near future." Furthermore, the game "is in great shape" and obviously, the team is pushing hard to get everything done. Said Wilson:

"The latest full build we've been testing here in the office is in great shape. We get a lot of sympathy from the other teams because of the long hours of crunch our design team is putting in, but the secret is that playing through the game as we do final tuning, bug fixes, and optimizations is a real joy.

We think you're going to love Diablo III when it's released, and speaking of release plans, you can seriously expect a launch-date announcement from us in the near future. See, I didn't say 'soon,' so I'm not taunting you. You'll know as soon as I know for sure the exact date ."

Yeah, we know there's a difference between "soon" and the "near future," even if we're not 100% clear on what that difference is . At any rate, we also wonder if they'll announce a release date for the console versions of Diablo III as well, which aren't official but are – just trust us on this – definitely coming. You can count on that.
