Publishers are always finding new ways to promote their products. …but this is a little beyond ridiculous.
EA has quite the plan in place for providing lucky star-gazers a chance at getting Mass Effect 3 early. If you happen to live in the general area of New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, London, Paris or Berlin, we suggest you look to the heavens.
No, you're not praying that a copy of ME3 will magically fall into your hands…okay, wait, maybe you are. According to USA Today , EA has attached a handful of ME3 copies to weather balloons hovering over the aforementioned cities. Each game is tagged with a GPS tracker so fans can monitor its position in the sky from MassEffect.com . The balloons have to come down eventually and when they do, if you're in the right spot, the game is yours.
But this begs the obvious question: isn't it quite possible that a lot of people will know exactly where that balloon is landing, and that a lot of people will be standing there, waiting to retrieve their copy? So who gets it? First person there? …not sure I want to be in that crowd.
Related Game(s): Mass Effect 3
This is such a great marketing idea. I think Im gonna do it for the New York area or at least take a peak. I have a feeling a lot of people are going to show up for this.
Ummmm………..tickle me elmo riots x20 anybody?
Good morning from the Today show. Our urgent first story today: Violence today broke out in the outskirts of California as THOSE mentally deranged gamers fought over the myth that the sex and murder simulator, "Mass Effect" would be falling from the sky. Now is a good time to throw away your kids game systems and have them tune into ABC instead
=p
Don't you mean FOX?
Sure. Pick one. I haven't watched broadcast tv since, since all before you were born I bet
NOPE. gonna go play good games and you know enjoy them. PS3 has some great games. don't waste your money people.
pooie face and pooie sentiments. Just go turn on your anime cartoons and be happy.
So because it isn't your cup of tea the game sucks?
…okay.
You *do* know that we talk about a franchise with meta scores well up in the 90s here, right?
Agree. ME3 isn't a good game. Its a excellent game. Go play your good japanime games.

… mass effect sucks as it is a terrible game and series. it looks like shi, plays like shi, and everyone with a quarter of a brain knows this.
Luckily you don't need more than quarter of a brain to write something as meaningless as that. Actually, it would be more insulting to the game if you said you liked it.

N4G would love to have you, Sogi. That's what they do over there. A bunch of senseless comments coming from people with superiorty complexes.
if only there was an ignore function here, this guy and a couple more would be added right away
Wow, his troll factor just jumped up 89 points.
Man you guys are dumb or funny as hell. you can't take that someone hates a piece of crap like this, but you can talk trash about other games. you need to accept that people don't like it. if you don't welcome that opinion or argue that it is good. then i can say what ever i like. i bet you guys liked 5th element on PS1 too. lol.
currently playing: FFXIII-2, Fate/extra, Yakuza 3, Shadows of the damned, God eater, Harmony of Dissonance, Bionic Commando rearmed, looking forward to, Asura's wrath, TOG-F, SFXT, the VITA, Persona 4 for Vita.
what part of that has to do with japanime games, fate/extra?
and i can justify and defend each and every game. all you guys did was bash me, and of course quote the scores.
I can honestly say that (with the possible exception of Persona) none of those games looks at all good to me…which is not the same as saying that they are (objectively) crap, much less making the absurd statement that everyone "with a quarter of a brain" knows that they're crap.
We are all right that Mass Effect is good and you are most assuredly wrong.
p.s. You meant to say "AT LEAST a quarter of a brain"; as is, what you said means only really stupid people would think Mass Effect is s***. I guess you made our point for us.
p.p.s. It's also kind of telling that (so far, at least) no one has given you a thumbs-up, though other regulars have previously expressed a dislike for ME.

It's a trap!
Would be awesome if a PSXE reader got one of these. Don't forget to take pictures! 🙂
Hopefully a ps3 version comes to los angeles.
Nah. This is just another UFO coverup led by the government…
Awesome avatar. Loved Kurt Wagner in X2!
They should have shaped the balloons as reapers
Have these actually launched yet? If so can someone provide a direct link to the GPS tracker.
Are there any rules about selling the copy online? People are willing to spend some serious money on games before release.
Once again, I lament the fact that I live in a small town…
I bet the town I live in is smaller. LOL
This is an insane idea. That many people in one area is not good. They better have a plan to control it all.
There is ALReADY massive crowds in each of the aforementioned cities! Lol
any you play the demo? the multi player is real good
Everybody seem to love the demo! omg I am getting so psyched for this release now.
I don't play it simply cause I want the game to be 100% fresh when I receive my pre-order.
the muti player has no story with it so no spolers
the thing that gets me is the CCG aspect of it
Here's hoping one of those weather balloons manage to cross the Pacific and reach our distant shores. LOL
kinda a waste no?
i mean chances are 90% of them will either end up in the sea, land where no one will ever find them, or end up on someone doorstep who has never seen a game before and puts it on ebay for a ridiculous price!
would of been better auctioning the games off and giving proceeds to charity.
that way people who want the game get it, not people who dont and none get wasted, and the money goes to a good cause.
No way i ll stand among some desperate people .Even only one could make retrieving the game a dangerous event .
