Sometimes, the media – and gaming communities – can blow something very much out of proportion. Other times, it's not exaggeration but reality.
And when it came to the problems PS3 gamers experienced when sampling the admittedly epic greatness that was The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim , fans seemed split on the issue. Some said the glitches weren't so bad, while others called the game virtually unplayable.
Well, Bethesda has responded. Game Director Todd Howard told IndustryGamers that although his team has been working hard to set things right, "statistically, it is not nearly as bad as it seems." In fact, according to both internal and external data, Skyrim is their most solid release.
"It's also our most popular by a large factor, so we do have a lot of people on the PS3 who play the games a lot and their games are at a state that the game is just taxing the PS3 enough. That's a fact; so, it really wasn't until we were able to get save games from the users – because, literally, how they play the game over 100 hours – some of it, very little of it, we were able to reproduce and take care of on our own and a lot of it that you're seeing now, we weren't. So over the course of, like, December, the community helped us. We got their save games. We'd literally have to look in and say, 'What quests do they have running, what order? Oh, he's doing this. He's got these dragons here. This script is running. Why is it kicking out this many things?' And the 1.4 update is coming out today on the PS3 and it should – in our internal tests on those games – it fixes it, it takes care of it. But, going through this, we now know, there will still be – a smaller set, but there are probably still people we don't have their saved games and they have [other problems]."
Howard went on to talk about how the PS3 handles things differently (which we already know), and finished by saying that for the "vast majority" of those who played Skyrim on Sony's machine for 100+ hours, the game was "fine." Would you agree with that statement?
It's working nice now, but from others that I have talked to some of the quests are bugged/glitched and don't work.
Meh I have it on 360 and my main quest is glitched near the end lol. Spent over 100 hrs on sidequests but I can't even finish the game.
So yeah no console is immune to the Skyrim bug plague. Still, I love the game. I keep playing all the time 😀
You know Ben i do not see all these problems in Skyrim that gamers seem to be complaining about sure i see some framerate drops when auto saving takes place..but nothing real bad, im enjoying Skyrim.
What about that Moonlight sword in Darksouls? is that a possible hint of a new Kings Field game?
I chose to buy the pc version of Skyrim because the glitchy/buggy Fallout. Hopefully they have worked out the issues for ps3 owners.
And has your PC version been any less glitchy/buggy? It would seem it woulve have it's fair share of issues as well.
I also have the PC version to play it at higher resolutions, does make a huge difference. Main reason now though is for the Middle Earth mod that is coming out for the Skyrim engine. They have modeled the whole LOR world. Should be fantastic to experience.
Q!

no, PC version is perfect!
i had to restart my character and game save because i was fed up with the unstable ps3 version.
112 hours in on my PC play and i have not had a single issue!
and thats even with a sh*t load of mods installed.
i wish the ICEnhancer mod for skyrim was not canned, dont get me wrong some mods look great!
but i really wanted to see what he could do with the game, i mean look what hes done with GTAIV!
i want skyrim to look that good!
Other then some NPC's getting stuck and a few graphical glitches here and there, I haven't experienced any real problems at all with my PC version. I only run into issues when I try out some of the poorly made mods. But now that the mod tools are available, there are some really high quality ones that have come out.
mods are a whole different story!
are you able to fast travel without the game booting you out?
runs perfectly with the ENB and texture mods installed, as long as i dont fast travel as soon as i do that the game crashes.
if i remove the mods then it works fine, only with mods it crashes after fast travel.

No real issues.. I saw Mammoth float. I play on high settings too.
I still have not bothered with playing this yet. Not sure if I ever will. I'm not really happy with the way they treated this release. They knew there was problems with the PS3 version and still shipped it. That makes it clear why they didn't bother sending test copies of it out to anybody.
One day I may get it but as for right now I'm not even worried about missing it with all the great stuff I still have to play and then the great stuff to come. I also will have the Vita next week to kill my time too.

i agree.
Knowing my luck, I'd not be part of "most people". So -if- I play it, it'll be on PC.
Looks at my glitched Civil War quest line… awaits 1.05.
Everything else seems fixed though.
I would agree with him. The game has always been fine for me and those I know that have it. In fact the only time I heard about the issues were when on the Internet.
But I'm just glad to see even though they are saying it is fine for the majority, they still are willing to fix it for the minority. Most developers flat out say of the demand isn't high enough they won't support the games. Obviously this game is very popular but it does sound like from there info that theres a much smaller fraction having problems than not.
Yeah I've not experienced any problems either. I guess there are many factors playing a role here.
In November it was Skyrim by Befreezda since the PS3 froze a lot!!
After patch 1.4 things are mostly fixed and I am very happy with this game to the point where there are other games that I have yet to play since my three games that I have been playing are Skyrim, umm Skyrim and yeah!! Sky rim!!
I have so much faith in Bethesda's internal testing abilities for the PS3 versions of their games. :/ Bethesda sang the the same exact tune -game just fine for majority of PS3 users- when early problems were reported and we learned Bethesda refused to even send out the PS3 version for review. They knew they shipped that game with serious issues on the PS3. That, I have no doubt about.
There is only one other game that forced me to hard reset my PS3 more than Skyrim and that is Fall Out 3.
1.04 fixed a ton of problems for me. Only one quest remains glitched on me, so I have been playing again.
I do agree with you though that Bethesda needs to respect the PS3 userbase, and quit giving the appearance of being Xbox fanboys.
The fact that Skyrim shipped with so many issues is laughable, and in my opinion, removes it from any GOTY consideration.
I tell you the truth.
oh bull sh*t!
im sorry, but i dont believe that for a second!
however that aside, so freaking what?
i HATE it when companies come out and say ah its only a small minority.
like that makes it all ok.
who gives a sh*t if only 10% of our players cant play our game, its only 10% 90% can play just fine.
gone are the days where companies actually gave a f*ck about their customers!
I made it past the 220 hour mark with only minor framerate issues. I haven't played it in a while, though.
I have a friend who refuses to download anything for any game, no matter how large or small of a file, and his game is almost completely unplayable now.
You need new friends. ________, calm yourself man. I for one only had a good amount of lag in Solitude, Riften, and Whiterun. Other than that, I managed almost 300 hrs without a huge glitch. There is a word of power that I'm being pointed to by a quest marker that I already have (weird), but that's my only major complaint (since I can't get a quest for more). I already have 90% of the shouts anyways. Since 1.4 has hit I am well on my way with a new character. No lag in sight so far. I am happy with my purchase and tell your friend to quit being so ignorant and download the patch. Does he think the government hides spy cams in game patches or something?
Is this some sort of hybrid comment made for two people?
just because you did not have too much lag does not mean no one else did.
i could not play the game at all!
id either be so slow, or id completley freeze up my ps3.
those were not the only issues either, i constantly kept getting stuck in the world, and allot of missions would not trigger.
i remember one particular mission if you wanted to join the college to learn magic, first mission you had to meet the teacher at this cave at a certain time but he would never show up so i could never start the quest.
im sorry, but i dont pay 110 bucks for my games so they can look pretty on my shelf for 4 months while the developers work on a fix.
I have over 100+ hours logged in, i stop playing it because its broken, having the gamer send their save games to them is completely dumb, hire some freaking game testers jeez, shot i would even do it for free, just deliver a polished product
I din't know about 1.4 coming out, i might go back in the the void
Doesn't really matter when the game should have been "fine" for 100% of the people that bought it from day one.
98% would be satisfactory for me. However were talking about Bethesda who can only make polished games for the PC. The PC players are the only ones I have ever talked to that hold the game in high regards, as they have far less flaws to them.
I love that they claim it as the minority as I have 25-35 firends on my list that have played it and all but 2 have claimed it has MAJOR issues. The only thing I will give Bethesda credit for is the fact that a "major" issue means something different to each and every player. I have and will still wait for the GOTY edition before I buy/play this game, and even then I am expecting issues with it, as they have yet to produce a game for a Playstation system that hasn't had real/major issues(to me).
The only significant problem I've had has been a map area refusing to load. No matter what I do, Yngol Barrow just won't work.
While I think about it I have also had NPC's disappear into thin air when I've killed them and unfortunately that has broken at least one quest. This has only happened with patch 1.4
I played around 120 hours and it was playable. I only had minor issues with lag/glitches/freezes. My dad played around 400 hours and it was still playable for him as well. I would not consider it unplayable based on my experience.
Well imo the real problem with this game was the switch of focus, they were developing for the PC than halfway through they switched the focus to console….
In the end this created problems we see on console and the PC version feels like a console port and couldve been much superior.
To me it feels they kinda screwed up on both front.
The game is still great but it couldve been more polished imo.
