Catherine asks the gamer some very tough questions concerning commitment, monogamy, and the ever-present lure of freedom and taboo pleasure.
You don't often see video games tackling such complex and controversial subjects, but it worked out beautifully in Atlus' puzzle adventure. European gamers will finally get the game tomorrow and we highly recommend it .
In an interesting poll conducted by the game's publisher (Deep Silver), gamers voted on which "relationship type" they were; if you voted for Katherine, you were into the long-term idea; if you voted for Catherine, you kinda like one-night stands and no responsibility. The poll results were interesting: 59% went for Katherine.
Catherine won our Most Original/Innovative award in 2011 and you can bet that it'll garner plenty of new fans in Europe. And we could talk all day about how those results reflect the mindset of gamers, but that's probably a topic for another time…it could take a while. Are you surprised at the result? And if so, why?

Katherine. She is my kind of girl. Glasses, brains, and beauty. Could settle down with a person like her.
Good to see that in this jaded, cynical and hedonistic world we live in, deep down we're all really big old softies with decent morals and values 🙂
59%? I'd be a lot more encouraged if it was 89%. 😉
I completely agree with you, Ben. I mean, sure, 59% is over half. But only barely. It would have been much more encouraging if it were quite a bit higher. If you look at the other way, that means 41% of the people surveyed would be totally cool with no responsibility and just random non-committal encounters. I think THAT more accurately reflects the moral state of our society. It's definitely interesting to see these results.
Screw morals, humans are animals and not meant to be with one person our entire lives. You have a false sense of reality if you think otherwise.
Sadly, I'm inclined to agree with LV, as cynical as it sounds.

@LV
I don't agree with you at all.
We're not just animals, we're rational animals.
No matter how simple you put it, we have a sense of morality (either consciously, or subconsciously). It's impossible to avoid it.
If we can be irrational enough to ignore those senses, is left to the specific person.
I did intend a healthy dose of sarcasm in my post, still, 59% is higher than i would have expected considering the large percentage of youngsters in the gaming community 🙂
wolfsinner,
When I said screw morals I meant they have no baring on whether or not someone has multiple partners. There is a reason so many species have multiple partners, it leads to a higher rate of survival of the species.
A rational person would believe this, maybe not agree with it due to their personal choices but still see that it's true.
I suggest you look at the statistics and any scientific journal with information on the subject.
@LV,
Yes, you're correct. I misread your original post, my bad.
Kathrine… no question or doubt. Catherine would have chose anyone, she's not worth the time or trouble. but Katherine is the kind of girl you may fuss with but in the end you'd really want something with.
but they are just 0's and 1's 😀
Cant I be like Vincent and have both? Sans all the crazyness, but I guess it comes with the territory.
As I am getting this tomorrow at the moment it is hard to say but from my own moralistic views it would be the one who wants to get married etc Katherine. It wouldn't even enter my head to go with Catherine in the 1st place.
Never cheated and never will. I know I wouldn't like it done to me so what goes round comes around I believe.
not to be awkard in correcting you ben but Catherine actually came out yesturday on digital release in the EU. its currently available for £39.99

It has February 10 listed as an official date. That's all I know.
I played it honestly and got the normal lovers ending. I guess i'm a good man!
Fantastic game, one of the best available at the moment.
I ended up with no one haha. In the end both women have their weaknesses. I loved how both were nuanced individuals.
i'd prefer katherine for "relationship type". i'm not really the type to go out partying all night. i prefer a more intimate/quiet time like watching a movie or dinner. i like simple, not complicated.
both!
one for the family life, and one for the "fun" life.
