Platinum Games is currently working on Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance , and we assume a Bayonetta sequel will be heading our way, too.
But Vanquish was one game that got plenty of critical acclaim and sold relatively well, and yet, we say it didn't get anywhere near enough respect. The buzz seemed to die out all too soon.
That being said, we hope the strong sales will warrant an eventual sequel. The one thing that stood out about Vanquish was it's super fast-paced third-person shooting action that was actually unique; games of this type never move like that. It kept you on the edge of your seat from the word "go" and never let up. There was just so much to like about it. I was also impressed with the mechanics and general gameplay execution; one never felt overwhelmed, and despite the over-the-top speed, you never felt cheated. You never cursed out the game for causing deaths that weren't directly related to skill.
It wasn't realistic in the slightest and that was fine. We'd only ask for a better story and more defined characters. The entire focus of Vanquish was squarely on the gameplay and that isn't a bad thing, per se, but we'd like a more well-rounded production. The sequel absolutely should happen and we hope enough gamers out there appreciated what Platinum did with the first title. Those guys aren't into franchises but if enough people ask for it, we're willing to bet Platinum will deliver.
