If you haven't checked out Tony Jaa in the last eight years or so, we implore you to do so; the guy's pretty amazing.
It has been announced that Studio HIVE has secured the game license for the next installment in the movie series, "Ong-Bak." HIVE is based in Thailand and will deliver a multiplatform game some time this year. The studio's general manager had this to say concerning the project:
"It’s a great honour for our team to work on the very first Ong-Bak multiplatform game. As a Thai development studio we love the movie and have a deep understanding of the Ong-Bak brand values and we make sure that the videogame will be an inspiring martial arts action experience for gamers."
I'm not as into martial arts movies as I used to be, but I still remember the effect "Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior" had on me. Firstly, Jaa does all his own stunts, which is usually enough of a reason for me to watch. Secondly, I'm pretty sure I had never seen anyone perform a double spinning kick; i.e., not a 360, but a freakin' 720 in the air before striking. Thirdly and lastly, the Muay Thai style of fighting has always seemed particularly brutal in my eyes; lots of elbows and heels.
As for the game…I'll just remain optimistically hopeful.
