If you're looking for some hectic fast-paced action in 2012, you should probably put DMC at or near the top of your list.
Ninja Theory is still working on this highly anticipated reboot, and they continue to provide gamers (some of whom remain skeptical) with plenty of gameplay footage.
Here's the latest from Capcom Unity Videos; it shows Dante ripping into a few baddies with plenty of deadly style. It's the style we recognize from the vaunted Devil May Cry franchise, even if Dante lacks the silver hair. Juggling an enemy with a combination of a sword swipe and twin pistols has returned, and you can obviously stay in the air for a while .
Nothin' wrong with that. One last thing to consider: the DMC games were quite challenging (with the exception of the often ignored DMC2). But Ninja Theory doesn't have a history of making hand-cramping action games; don't confuse them with Team Ninja ( Ninja Gaiden ). Ninja Theory produced Heavenly Sword and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West ; both games had challenging parts, but neither was particularly tough.
Well, the final boss fight in Heavenly Sword was hard…
Related Game(s): DMC
Reminds me of Ultamecia's Castle from FFVIII. Looks like they have vsync on as well. Good on them for learning from their mistakes on Enslaved.
Revengeance looks like a much better game, sorry Dante in this moment Raiden is more cool than you (never thought I would say that).
It's like God of War / still-slow-DMC-kinda-game.
i don't know about that. Dante has always been bad ass!!! Raiden was only really cool in mgs4. Not that Revengeance doesn't look good.
People can hate all they want, but this game is looking better and better every time i see new gameplay footage. I can't wait to play it myself.
I honestly think the gameplay looks smoother in this than Revengeance.
Looks a bit slower, but still fun. It can be explained away by Dante being less used to his abilities. And the design of that level is pretty crazy.
Looks and sounds fantastic. A bit slower of course, but that's expected to keep things tidy on the Unreal Engine (if it's not on Capcom's NT framework which it doesn't look like it is). Platforming and level design look sweet, too. Bravo to Ninja Theory.
My main question is the footage we are viewing from the 360 or PS3 version. We know this game is using the Unreal engine which tends to favor the 360. It takes an extremely talented developer to get good results with the Unreal engine on the PS3.
I dare say this might be Ninja Theory's last chance. Another flop from then and I doubt there will be many publisher's knocking on their doors in the future. Even the desperate Japanese publisher's will walk away.
Ninja Theory used the Unreal Engine for Enslaved, and that was fine on the PS3.
Digital Foundry face off Enslaved.
"On the performance side of things the analysis we did suggested that in detail-heavy interior scences, the Xbox 360 version commanded a noticable frame-rate advantage with significantly lower levels of screen-tears. The obvious conclussion is that heavy scenes in the Unreal 3 Engine tend to favour the the 360. This is something that has been the case with the engine for quite some time now. We have seen a similar state of affairs with the engine in many other games."
Again, not a big fan of the Unreal engine since it does in fact favor the 360. What's a little sad about the PS3 version losing that face off is that Ninja Theory had PS3 game development experience in the past. Hmph is all I can say to that, Not fine in my book.

no it does not, its just lazy developers not doing their work properly!
look at UT3 and the batman series, both have been better on the ps3.
its the lazy developers not wanting to do the extra work causing poor ps3 ports, not the UE3 engine.
While it does looks good and fun, I don't know man, kinda looks dumbed down to me.
GET-OVER-HERE, slash, slash, slash. Rinse and repeat.
Now I need a different footage.
GET-OVER-HERE, slash, slash, slash. Rinse and repeat.
lol isn't that what we did with Nero in DMC4
Which is EXACTLY why I hated that crap of a DMC game. Don't get me wrong it wasn't horrible but for a DMC title it was tied with two…and that says a ton. DMC3 will always be king because the story was great, the game was challenging and the combat was super deep.
The AI in this looks extremely dumb. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that this was done intentionally to show of the combat. IMO that was a bad idea because then you get fan reaction like this.
I just pray it does well. These titles were some of my favorites back on the PS2. I've yet to see wonders done with any Ca$hcom game that has gone multiplat..cough cough…Resident Evil (and now DMC). And yes I know It's Ninja Theory developing the game this time.
Last thing, I'm honestly not trolling. These are just the concerns of a genuine fan. The game DOES look good, just the combat is a tad bit iffy for me. They should have gave this game to Team Ninja. The combat at the end of the day is what really matters and again, it's just not doing it for me. We'll see I guess.
Yes, that's what we did with Nero and it was kinda repetitive until we got to play with Dante.
You know, you're the one controlling the characters, right? You don't HAVE to do that same combo, do something different.
@LegendaryWolfeh
I'm going to have to agree with snake on this one. No matter what your tried to do, Dante's mechanics were much more open ended and dynamic. Nero felt extremely noob friendly. I always said it was Capcom's way of capturing the casual market.
He WAS very repetitive. The only way to actually get near an enemy to keep up with your stylish points was to utilize the devil bringer. Dante had trickster which was much more better in maneuvering and obviously less repetitive. He also had the ability to switch between 5 styles AT WILL.
Also Dante even had different swords that changed his style completely. Nero only had his red queen and the bare bone exceed ability. The double barrel gun was just a way to make him fit the "Dante mold."
Again I just pray that there's more to this new DMC than meets the eyes. I can't bare waiting another 5 years just to get a DMC that's actually fun and pushes the franchise to new heights. Oh how I miss DMC3.

sorry but DMC4 was tailored more for Nero's style of game play in my opinion. though he didnt gain multiple weapons like dante, he had a lot of depth to his style as well, especially when you learned how to insta rev you sword in the middle of combos
Dante felt like he was added to appease those who were pissed he wasnt in the game as a usable character. Which is why he tends to have most of the same weapons. He's strong as heck if you're using his gauntlet weapon while switching rapidly between normal and devil mode. But really, not a lot was added to him where i could say Dante deserved to be the only character on the game.
Nero got pegged as noob friendly unfairly, but i bet the same who claim he's noob friendly never did master his insta revs thru out a full combo.
On topic, i wish the game play was faster, and i hope the ai isnt as dumb in the video on the final product
lol when he got to the big chain I thought he was about to do something over-dramatic and over-the-top slashing move to cut the chain, but I guess it was funny that he didn't.
Looks like way too much button smashing for me. I mean come on, I don't want to stab/slash a basic enemy 30 times before it dies.
Yeah it never took that long in older DMCs…maybe they're just showing off mechanics right now and they'll fix enemy health later?
I analysed it and it doesn't take quite long though.
Maybe you're just too used to Nero's DevilBringer's heavy damage.
Not really? I'm just used to Dante and Vergil's tech's in DMC3 so…
When did Dante get into Alice in Wonderland? Weird.
Yep it looks like that game, which isn't bad because Alice was a decent game if wasn't for some problems and the combat it would be excellent, this sure has great combat… that said it doesn't look better than Bayonetta and Revengeance looks more hot.

It needs music….everything else seems to look good.

eh.
this i could not give a sh*t about!
the DMC collection is all i care about, you will never get a DMC game better then DMC 3!
probably wont get a hack and slash game better then DMC3 for that fact!
I'm not ashamed to admit that I was one of the first people to be insulting NT when they first showed the new look for Dante and what-not. ^^"
However, I have to say that it looks to be shaping up quite well. The level-design looks awesome and the combat looks as fun as it always was…
My only gripe would be that it looks to be a bit on the easy side????
Hopefully, DMC hasn't descended to a mere button-masher, but I'm going to assume that the enemies were a bit on the easy side to showcase the combat system.
Probably won't be a day-1 purchase, but I'm sure I'll pick it up eventually 🙂
