Platinum Clarifies: Lead Platform For Rising Is The PS3

This makes perfect sense in a couple of different ways.

During the behind-the-scenes making-of video of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (it debuted yesterday), people noticed the game was being controlled with an Xbox 360 controller. This gave way to speculation that new developer Platinum Games was using Microsoft's console as the lead platform.

But according to Andriasang citing Inaba's Twitter feed, the opposite is true: the PlayStation 3 is the lead platform for Rising . Here's a little studio history: with Bayonetta , the team dropped the ball because they only developed the 360 version; the PS3 version was handled externally. But they rectified the problem with Vanquish by making both versions. Furthermore: "Games are developed on an internal Platinum-developed engine, and PS3 is always the lead platform."

The reason you saw the 360 controller in the making-of documentary? That's just because it's used to control the game on PC for cross-platform development. Inaba concluded his Twitter monologue by saying-

"So, in closing, Metal Gear Rising's lead platform is also PlayStation 3."

Also, let's not forget that Kojima Productions very likely used the PS3 as the lead platform when creating those character designs, too. So it all just kinda fits together, right?

No surprises here. After Bayonetta, Platinum's games have taken the PS3 as lead to avoid the 360 to PS3 porting problems. Just like almost every major developer.

Other than the developers of Skyrim and Call of Duty, they should be embarrassed.

I tend to think the less said about the the PS3 version of Bayonetta the better. Vanquish turned out okay…no worries.

What happened with Bayonetta wasn't Platinum Games fault but SEGA.

Depends on how you look at it. Platinum could've just developed both versions in-house and not let Sega wreck the PS3 version.

exactly what ben said. its their game and they shouldve handled it themselves. its not like the 360 version came out way before the ps3 version. it shouldve been made the same time with basically the same people if you're making a multiplatform game. you cant just make one version of the game then pass it on to someone else to make a different version.

I read back in the day that Bayonetta wasn't going to be on the PS3 from the beginning, so they had some other team port it, dunno why perhaps they got faith on Sega being capable, but they learned their lesson, remember Vanquish.

"Lead Platform For Rising Is The PS3" … Well, it sure as hell doesn't look like it!

Game gonna run at 60 fps, graphics are pretty good imo, taking into account is just the lead platform and not a exclusive Ps3 game.

Is this coming for the PC also? I thought it would be a console exclusive.

You know PC's are what are used most of the time to actually create the games right? It's what they used to show it off as well a lot of the time, till the build is good enough they can try them on on the actual consoles.

As Kojima Productions failed to develop it, letting Kojima down it's failed to gain my interest which it had none every step of the way. From the middle and finally Kojima handing the keys over Kojima had shown in interviews he had started to lose faith in his young team.

I am glad it has been given over to Platinum, it might make a great game. Just not one for me. I am also glad Solid has been removed. That should have been how it was to begin with. Frankly It shouldn't exist at all though. Metal Gear should be put to rest, snake should be put to rest and Kojima should be allowed to flourish in other projects.
