The secret PlayStation 3 exclusive that will debut at the Spike TV Video Game Awards on December 10?
Well, it was pointless to guess, 'cuz it appears to be a brand new IP: as revealed by Game Informer , it's a game called The Last Of Us , and there's even an official website , which is strangely compelling.
Any guesses as to the type of game it will be? The brief bizarre look at a freakin' ant at the website probably won't help, but another trailer has surfaced. Check it out:
Okay, that may not help much, either, but it's certainly intriguing. Yes, we are a doomed species and we get sicker with every passing day, but will this game be as depressing as potentially indicated? Or is it just another end-of-the-world zombie-killin' title? We really don't believe it's the latter…that'd be just too disappointing.
Related Game(s): The Last Of Us
If I had to guess, I would say it's going to be one of the following 3:
1. A zombie/survival type of game
2. Possibly a first person shooter, or
3. An action/adventure, kind of like Uncharted
Zombies? Where do you see zombies? It has something to do about riots.
The trailer just reeks of post-apocalyptic setting. Who's to say the people weren't mutated or killed then brought to life (or something to that effect) after the apocalyptic event?
There is a video of an ant that were infected by fungal bacteria. I think this game may become a new Resident Evil, or just become some Left-4-Dead shooter.
I really don't want any more shooters. I think post-apocalytic games have so much room to explore.
4. Half man, half amazin'.

That trailer tells me nothing about the title, so I have nothing to really say about it. However I will say that I have become sick of post-apocaylypic settings in games/films so I hope its not anything like that or Zombies…
I didn't realize "Occupy Wall Street" has been filming themselves.
HA.
LOL!
You just made my day, BikerSaint 🙂
Any protest has to constantly film themselves in case of wrongdoings since the mainstream media will never portray them in any sort of positive light.
As for the game.. well it could be interesting, or it could be horrible in every way. Hard to tell yet. Frankly if they were going for simply live action to start off I think it could have been edited to have more impact witht the weath of material available today.
Damn… I feel depressed…
Now I want a grease smelling, downtown hot dog while lying down on my couch watching Sunday football, thinking what will I eat on the BBQ of the 4th of July just at the same time that an airplane passes overhead… Then on a peaceful night I'm gonna have a clean conscience 'cause everything will all be gone… :/
We're speculating a Walking Dead type action/drama that may or may not have zombies:

Exactly what I was thinking, as I predicted under my first guess.
I can clearly see the show's influence in the game.
I am a huge fan of The Walking Dead. I would to see a serious/realistic take on the zombie genre.

Cordyceps…
better than ropeyceps
Is there a reason this can't be the new game Quantic Dream is working on? If its done in a similar style to Heavy Rain, then I will def be getting it.
If this is a secret project by Quantic Dream… I think I might just go crazy with excitement like with no other game.
Alright, time to put all those hours wasted in my Zoology class to use! In reference to the very first video with the ant climbing up, then dying, this has to do with this certain fungi that's found in different rain forests. Once ants eat it, it takes over their minds with some kind of toxin, making them climb to a high point before they die off, and the fungus begins to grow again from the ant's dead body, gaining the plant some leverage in the dense rain forest as it climbs toward the sunlight. Some ants can sense when another ant is ridden with this disease, and so they find those ants, and deliberately kill and push the ants off back onto the forest ground. This is mainly because the fungus will be eaten by other ants again if it's found, and thus the cycle continues.
This leads me to believe it could be some mind control agent, kind of a concept like that movie, 28 Days Later. I really adore this concept, because this stuff can actually happen, without a doubt. Biological apocalypse is a very real danger, just as real as nuclear or authoritarian apocalypse, and gives me the chills. This game has excited me so much just because of the fact that these very things, by nature, terrify us as humans because it goes against our very will to live and breaks the realm of trust in other human beings. It honestly sounds like something that will keep us all up at night.
Cannot wait to see some gameplay!
Interesting. 🙂
Actually, in the video, when the ant is dead, you see a sort of bud growing out of the back of its head.
This was actually the same concept used for RE4's "Las Plagas" parasite.
According to the game, the developers of that parasite had previously researched how parasites such as the fungi that infects certain insects and bugs, can control their mind.
And that's how they perfected a parasite (Las Plagas) that was able to take control of full size humans (children were considered to be too weak to be a proper host).
Hmmm… Plants that make you go crazy and do dumb things. That just reminds me of the plot for The Happening.
Actually the ant video could be very relevant. It was series of clips from Planet Earth about a parasitic fungus that takes hold of the ant and drives it mad. The thing can grow right out of the ant, possibly infecting and destroying the entire colony. They are typically dragged far away from the colony to prevent this.
Probably a clue as to what happens in the game.
It kind of reminds me of something like I Am Alive. I anticipate a 3rd person title similar to that.
I'm still holding out hope that I Am Alive will be a good downloadable title, but maybe The Last of Us will also be something akin to Disaster Report with a better budget… oh, and also the fungal toxins and ants you speak of, Gamer Girl Gemo.
If I remember right, the PS2's "Raw Danger" was another disaster game like "Disaster Report" too, but with floods(just too tired right now to pop both of them in to check).
As I said yesterday, colour me intrigued. That narration playing over that imagery is just so… evocative. I do get the feeling that it will be post-apocalyptic in a way, but I'm hoping it isn't just about killing. Maybe it'll take a sort of "I Am Alive" route, instead being simply about surviving. Oh, I hope so.
For now… It's firmly on the radar.
If this is a next gen SOS The Final Escape aka Disaster Report style experience then i will be buying it.

50 bucks says this is the zombie shooter sony SM was suppose to be working on.
i remember PSM3 had a article on it i think 09 it was.
coincidence SM has had a listing for experienced FPS developers lately?
SM looking for FPS people could be a sign of them bringing Heartland back to life… Not necessarily a sign of a zombie shooter.
obviously, but then how do you explain PSM3 speculating that they were working on a FPS zombie game for move?
This game might be done by Sony Santa Monica and will be a move related game. Some snippets of it were shown when they were showcasing the move. The game where a guy was wandering about with a flashlight.
Sounds like an interesting concept.
But you know….
I have no trouble believing this game could be real. 😉
The ant video talks about a fungus that grows out of the ant and spreads….
It's a population control fungus, and the human race needs controlling 🙂
I wonder if it has anything to do with Phorid flies? They lay eggs on ants and the babies bore into the skull of the ant and eat the brains. The ants act just like the ant in that video. The maggot then comes out of the ants head just like in the video. It's hard to tell what is actually coming out of the ants head. But in the back ground you can see the leaves moving…not sure though.
Check this out:

Maybe they are attacking humans in the same way? Or it's a metaphor for something similar to Phorid flies that's laying eggs in Human's brains and causing us to go insane and then die off.
Hmmmm, looks like a very interesting game!
i too believe its a move game, like a article i read how move need more specific titles i think it was here that i read that article…. i personality dont mind a zombie game as long as it is done with same QA as other sony exclusives
red herring!
I know this is a stretch, but I would love it if this were an open-world sandbox game similar to GTA. Most GTA games involve a character starting out at the bottom of the crimeworld food chain while slowing climbing up thru the ranks to eventually become a shot-caller or boss of sorts. Imagine an open-world game you had to rebuild your life in a similar fashion thru missions similar to those in a GTA game. Somehow you would still have access to cars and other vehicles (just to prevent the game from becoming too much like Red Dead Redemption or Fallout) but your choices have much more gravity than just making money.
If it is another FPS, I'm going to be sick.

Nice trailer. I just hope this doesn't turn into another Left 4 Dead.
LOL @ the guy with the face mask not covering his nose.
5 more days….just a tad anxious.
Was I the only one that was thinking of the movie Them!
