John-ShepardCome on, it makes perfect sense. It's an excuse to use lots and lots of special effects, so of course Hollywood is interested. Story? What story? Since when do films need stories to hit big?
According to The Hollywood Reporter , New Line Cinema is currently creating a movie adaptation of Rampage , the classic '80s arcade game that spawned numerous titles for home consoles. If you're unfamiliar, it's usually about huge monsters (King Kong-type apes, sci-fi beasts, etc.) destroying cities. Sometimes the mammoths fight each other a well.
The producer for this movie will be John Rockard, who co-produced movies like "Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Final Destination," and you can bet they'll take some liberties with the plot. …they'd have to. Rampage has never really been about anything besides rampant destruction on huge scales. Humans were transformed into the monsters in question and that's that. The purpose of the games wasn't to stop the monsters; it was to become them and wreck everything in sight.
It was great fun, really. As a movie? Great for males between the ages of 10 and 18, we're sure. By the way, who else wouldn't mind seeing a full-budget next-gen Rampage installment?
I have good memories of playing Rampage all though my childhood. It's still fun at parties, and World Tour is still on my shelf!
I think I might actually be interested…as long as it doesn't suck.
hollywood needs to start coming up with their own ideas…..

Love Monster flicks. They don't even have to be good.
These were so fun as a kid. It makes total sense though, Transformers was a toy and it became huge. Battleship is up next, then Rampage. The less plot the bigger the special effects.
Though I wonder just how it will be done, like, what's the angle?

I'm actually surprised this hasn't been done already, like in the late 80s, early 90s. Also, last I heard, they were turning Missile Command into a movie, which has even less of a plot than Rampage.
since when does ANYTHING have to have a good story to be a hit?
eh, whatever the last good movie i saw was inception so hollywood can do whatever the %$#@ they want, i wont be there to suffer the abomination.
Agreed, though Inception was such a fantastic movie it almost makes up for the shovel-ware hollywood comes out with. Still kinda confused by the ending…

No no the ending were *perfect*! Oh man, when my girlfriend and I were watching it we both sat on the edges of our chairs staring at that thing spinning, waiting to see if… If… And that was it. *Perfect* I say.

great ending yes, but i HATE it how pieces of entertainment tease you like that!
oh well, they have to leave something open for a sequel.
The thing is though, it had to fall down for the rest of the story to make sense. I mean it sorta looked like it was gunna fall, it never did that in any of the dreams so I'd like to think it was about to…but yeah I'm still confused though. Definatly one of the better endings I've seen…I hate ones that go for a shock twist, just to make it seem more 'extravagant'.
I don't think a sequel will be made…I don't think this director does sequels. Fair-play I guess, I'm postive some just do it for the sake of it…& the money, ofcourse.

I remember the good 'ole days when I went to Chuck E. Cheese just to play the arcade version of the original, and Dragon's Lair. I'd like to see a new version come out at some point. And if it used the destruction physics from Frostbite 2, there could be some really nice city destroying going on.
You're not sure about monsters laying waste to cities as a movie concept? Clearly you have never watched a Godzilla movie – the originals not the western P.O.S. version of Godzilla.
Mothra and the smog Monster will rampage through your dreams as a result, along with Mecha-godzilla for good measure.

Actually now that you mention it, monster-movies is a very Japanese thing isn't it? I believe I've seen plenty Japanese movie posters with that as a theme.
I got two huge books with movie poster collections – everything from the classic to the obscure. It's amazing to browse through. Some time in the future we sure will have the same but with game covers – and I'll be the first to buy them!

Rampage was cool! I had totally forgotten about that game. The sense of destruction were enthralling back in the days.
