Last week, EA announced that Battlefield 3 had shipped 10 million units .
And now, the publisher has confirmed that about half that number has been sold thus far: 5 million.
And that's only in the first week of availability; therefore, BF3 now holds EA's record for the fastest-selling game in the company's history. Furthermore, they've acknowledged some of the server issues that have plagued the game since its launch, and many of those problems have been addressed. Over the weekend, EA "said that its online servers experienced their highest-ever usage rates during the game's first weekend."
Analyst Michael Pachter predicted BF3 would sell 8 million units before the year is out; that seems like an attainable goal now, even if Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 ends up doubling the sales total of BF3.
