There are plenty of loyal Just Cause fans out there, and all of them are clamoring for a third installment.
The good news is that Xbox World Magazine says Just Cause 2 developer Avalanche is currently working on something, and it's set to launch in 2012. The bad news is that we don't actually see the name, "Just Cause 3."
I mean, we can always assume, but you know what happens when we do that… Although JC2 managed to sell around 1.5 million copies worldwide, the game didn't sell quite as well as publisher Square Enix had anticipated. Furthermore, let's not forget the large gap between the first and second titles in this series; if history is any indication, the third entry could be a ways off. Then again, if Avalanche immediately started cranking on JC3 after JC2 released, that 2012 release date is hardly impossible.
As far as sandbox games go, Just Cause always offers an interesting, over-the-top experience. I've always thought the wonky mechanics needed to be greatly refined, but those who loved JC2 found a way to ignore that.
Definitely want the next iteration but with the added feature of co-op play. JC2 was fun, but became repetitive very fast. The exploring and creating chaos isn't nearly as enjoyable unless you have a buddy. Especially for this type of game since the story was lacking.
That is soo right: this is a game that needs storyline coop. That would suit this game perfect.
I found the JC2 immensely entertaining and I think with a little refinement it could be a AAA title.
JC3….I want!
I tried JC2 a while back and enjoyed it far more than I would've expected. I hope this series see more releases. I also like that these guys write their own game engine.
i really enjoyed JC2, by far one of the best games this gen!
especially on PC, with all the mods and trainers, by far the best community supported game!
Just Cause 2 was a very under-rated game. I've got 100+ hours in it. Even got a platinum trophy and after that still playing it! So much more fun than playing GTA4.
Advised a few friends to try it and they also put it in there TOP 3 this generation.
Also don't understand complaints about controls. You only have to get used to it just like others games.
Please Avalanche, give us more Just Cause.

That's really weird I was just thinking about JC3 yesterday as I watched the Saints Row 3 gameplay where you sky dive through rubble off a plane..
Anyway, I believe JC3 could be a goty contender if Avalanche put as much effort into the narrative as they did gameplay.
I just popped JC2 on last night and began thinking what a sequel would look like and how much i'd love to see, what is in my opinion, one of the most awe inspiring games this gen for it's scope alone, get another installment complete with multiplayer.
…then this news piece the next day! I'm so hoping it's true!
I have JC2 on platinum, so i always thought it sold brilliantly.

Still haven't finished Just Cause 2… gonna have to do that now. Mildly excited for now, but won't hold my breath until I see a gameplay trailer.
Great news. I rented this one and as a surprise it was a lot of fun. I'm really looking forward to the next one (and buy it instead of renting it)!
Ignoring the controls has nothing to do with it. The gameplay in JC2 is just plain brilliant. And considering that 1.5 million sold was easily doubled when considering the 360 and PC sales, there's no reason for Avalanche to not make a sequel.
If they were to announce anything other than JC3 I think we'd have a large "Booo!" from the gaming community.
There wasn't anything "brilliant" about.
You don't earn that label with crap controls.
Two can state their opinions as facts.
JC2's gameplay was BRILLIANT. The review here was off the mark.
You claim the controls were crap….i don't and never had a problem with them as with many others.
There, my opinion, stated as fact too. Arrogantly. 😉
Very repetitive!
