Today, Sony Computer Entertainment America has annouced the release of a sleek new limited edition silver PS2, just in time for the holiday retail rush.
The new system is set to retail for the standard price of $129.99 ($139.99 CND), but supplies are limited (thus, the "limited edition" title) so get a move on if you're interested in picking it up. The console sports the same features as the black PS2: backwards compatibility for that massive PS1 library, CD playback, digital surround sound, a couple memory card slots, and the Ethernet port for online gaming. But to add a great deal of appeal to the package, Sony is including a limited edition silver Dual Shock analog controller.
Since its debut in 2000, Sony has shipped over 111 million PS2s and 1.12 billion pieces of software worldwide, easily making it the fastest selling platform on the market.
"Six years after its initial launch, the PlayStation 2 continues to enjoy nonstop success, outselling all other consoles," said Jack Tretton, executive vice president, co-COO, Sony Computer Entertainment America. "The introduction of this limited edition model is sure to be a hit this holiday season with die-hard PlayStation fans and new gamers alike."
