Sega's sardonic man-fish didn't set the world on fire. Instead, it seemed to be another of the company's quirky titles hyped up for the Dreamcast that never quite lived up (Floigan Bros. anyone?). But that doesn't mean the abomination of nature known as Seaman isn't witty or charming – especially when his voice is fueled by the pipes of one Mr. Leonard Nimoy.
A new announcement concerning the sequel is on the way. Later this week according to the countdown timer on the website, in fact. But there seems to be some confusion as to what platform Seaman 2 will be arriving on. A while back, before any real details were leaked, it was said to be in the works for the Playstation 2. A lack of any information since has lead some to believe that a platform change may have occurred, with Seaman 2 making the leap to either the Nintendo Wii or DS – both equipped with microphones and a stylus/wand that would promote more intimate interactions with the character on-screen. Perhaps we'll see Seaman on all three platforms, who knows?
What we do know, though, is that the voice recognition present in the game will be heavily upgraded, allowing the player to talk to Seaman in sentences rather than simple words and phrases. Seaman 2 may not be a killer app, but his twisted charm still remains strangely appealing and it's good to know that he hasn't been filleted quite yet!
