Violent PS2 Games Removed From Prison

Violent offenders in Missouri's maximum-security prison in Jefferson City are allowed video games as part of their recreation center privileges.

Ironically, some of the more popular games include Hitman: Contracts and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. At least, that was the case until prison officials actually took a look at what inmates were playing and yanked those and others games off the shelf. In all, 35 out of 80 games were confiscated.

The superintendent of the Jefferson City Correctional Center said, "we assumed the violence was cartoon-like… we didn't closely review the content of the games."

Setting aside for a moment the debate about whether or not murderers and armed robbers should be allowed video games in prison, does anyone else think they'd have avoided this bit of publicity if they'd just stuck to E-rated games?
