Gaming May Cause Glaucoma

Uh oh–the results of a study by Toho University School of Medicine in Tokyo, Japan show that staring at a screen for extended periods (as we do when playing games) could be related to glaucoma.

Glaucoma is a series of related diseases that lead to increased pressure inside the eye, which ultimately causes blindness in many cases.

The researchers questioned 10,000 workers at various Japanese companies with an average age of 43. A third of these workers were found to have suspected glaucoma. Further, the incidence of glaucoma symptoms appeared to be significantly higher in near-sighted individuals.

So, uh, yeah, perhaps we should take breaks when we play and not do too many 8+ hour marathon sessions… yeah, right, like we have that willpower. We're all going to be blind at 40, aren't we?
