First News On Castlevania: The Movie

Of course, the tagline to this article is a rhetorical question. The sad part about it is that we have no control over who gets what gaming franchise and, in this case, it's Paul W.S. Anderson who gave us box office fool's gold with Resident Evil and Mortal Kombat. Yeah, he's better than Uwe Boll, but that's like calling vomit better than diarrhea.

Anyway, Bloody-Disgusting.com pried some info out of Resident Evil: Exteinction Producer Jeremy Bolt :

"First off, Paul W.S. Anderson won't shoot this film until after he finished Deathrace 3000, which you can read more about below. As for the plot? 'It will integrate Dracula's origin story with the story of the Belmonts," he tells B-D, "[There are] a fair amount of references [to the original NES games]." He continues, "[This will be] a whole new spin to 'Castlevania'," and the best part, "The whip is still in it.'"

Hey, Doom had the BFG and that didn't make it any better of an adaptation. Cheeky references to the games themselves are fun, but they don't make for a good movie and even the recent Silent Hill fails slightly in that regard. Saying "a whole new spin" is like ringing the death knell for any kind of adaptation and, at this point, we don't have a whole lot of hope for it.
