Electronic Arts Buys 20 Percent of Ubi

We told you last week about how Electronic Arts (a.k.a EA Games) was in negotiations to take-over DICE Interactive, and about their recent "exclusivity" deal with the NFL. Well, they've done it again…

Today, the company announced that it had purchased a 19.9 percent stake in French publisher, UbiSoft Entertainment–which is known for such franchises as Rayman, Splinter Cell, and Prince of Persia, among many others.

The purchase is pending anti-trust approval from the U.S. government. If the buy does go through, Electronic Arts would own the largest stake of shares in the French company, and thus "controlling interest." The shareholders with the next largest chunk of the company are the Guillemot family (the founders of Ubi) with 15%.
