It’s Too Bad PS4 And Vita Couldn’t Be A Killer Combo

I don't think anybody expected PlayStation 4 to do quite this well in the new generation.

But wouldn't it have been that much more exciting had PlayStation Vita acted as the perfect complement it, by all rights, should've been?

I can't remember the last time they announced a Vita game that wasn't coming to consoles, or wasn't a niche Japanese game. It's as if Sony has completely given up on the handheld, which is a shame because it had a truckload of potential. It even won me over when it first came out, and I'm no portable lover. For a while, I was definitely playing; I had fantastic games like Uncharted: Golden Abyss , Wipeout 2048 , Gravity Rush and Tearaway cemented my collection.

And then everything stopped. And it really sucks because imagine just how potent the PS4/Vita duo could've been. I'm willing to bet Sony was banking on that for the long-term and it really would've been a gigantic boon. But when Vita sales kept fizzling and Sony said they wouldn't support it with AAA games anymore, I knew the dream coupling wouldn't happen. These days, it's hard to give away a Vita but PS4s just keep selling . Well, one out of two ain't bad, I suppose.

Sony has such a great opportunity to have a Wii U like combo on their hands but don't want to take advantage of that. They could easily implement some features into their games that could take advantage of the Vita. It may not be much, but it does give people who own one the feeling like Sony cares a little more about them.

Seriously PS4+Vita bundle for $500 with a few old digital games and there you go!

But who is going to really care for a dead handheld that Sony doesn't even care about?

It really could have been something cool, sadly though we are talking about Sony, and they have not cared for their portable systems.

PSP was a very cool handheld, much like the Vita for the time it was a beast tech wise, and much like the Vita the PSP was expensive to own, Sony keeps the Memory costs high , the handhelds themselves start pricey, and drop down a touch, but still remain expensive compared to the competition. While the PSP had it's day in the sun with some really good games, FFT, Tactics Ogre, MHFU, etc etc, the Vita did not get much in the way of must own games sadly, and Sony did not help matters, they kept the price of the handheld fairly high, and as far as I know the memory is STILL far too expensive for the amount you get. This of course was made worse by Sony seemingly giving up on the Vita, which meant that 3rd party devs stopped caring as well.

I don't know for the life of me why people are so into the PS4 though, the price isn't too bad, but with no b/c again, and now having to pay to get online with games, let alone not having any good games atm, of course… that news about Dragon Quest will change that last part for me, but I'm still a long ways off from even considering a PS4.

Because not everyone wants backwards compatibility. I do not care for it, I have my PS3 for that purpose to play my older games. I'm not saying that they shouldn't do it because some people do like playing older games on newer systems.
The reason why I think people are into the PS4 is because no matter how hard Microsoft is trying to fix the things they were trying to do, people such as myself, either didn't like what they heard "oh mandatory online checks" or my favorite "no trading in your games" the instant I heard that? I traded in my Xbox 360 and all my games for it and put it all towards my preorder for PS4 lol. But yeah, they left a very very bad taste and we have yet to forgive them for it.
Sidenote, I do have a XB1 but only have 2 games for it still…
Also, someone on a different post said that the PS+ Free games are lacking in Triple A titles…ummm wtf is with Xbox Golds selection? It's not better that's for sure

I use my Vita mainly just to Netflix. I have a bunch of games and my 64gb memory is basically full.
I do use my Vita to play my console games sometimes though, nothing like knocking out some quests or grinding on the toilet for Witcher 3 or Destiny 😀

I don't even bother with Netflix since the software hasn't been updated to allow multiple profiles. That was my preferred Netflix device.
I guess the numbers of people watching Netflix on the Vita is too small to warrant an update.
Just wish that Netflix was playable from the browser like Youtube is right now.

There was a time I would of disagreed with you about the Vita but it's true. It's not getting the love it deserves. It's still getting games for sure and some of them are amazing. But they're no Uncharted or Tearaway. I get sudden urges to play on the console from time to time, but it's been a while since I can say I've played a game on it to completion.

But if you're into Japanese games, Danganronpa is great, as is Persona Golden. Disgaea games are always worth keeping installed. Unit 13 still stands as one of my favourite games (though with Zipper gone there's no more online).Ninja Gaiden, Rayman … I have to stop myself actually as I'm naming every game I own right now. But the more I reflect on it, if they were to stop putting games on this console right now, there's no shortage of great stuff. I think I've just managed to talk myself into picking it back up again.

okay so with my overall thoughts if they added the vita onto the ps4 for like an extra 150 bucks or something to move units cos the thing doesn't move its self and if you give for the option of the combo the might get them together for the features that it offers to the ps4 and yes it has great games i've played 2 two of the meationed games namely tearaway and unchartered which were both pritty good.
