Sony: PS4 UK Launch Boosted Vita Sales

Sony was obviously hoping that the launch of the PlayStation 4 would bolster sales of the ailing Vita. But did it?

Well, that does appear to have happened, at least in the UK. According to CVG (citing MCV), Vita sales leaped 68 percent the week after the PS4 released in the UK. Sales of the portable jumped another 65 percent the following week.

SCEE senior product manager Ben Law said they continue to see "strong week-on-week growth since our latest campaign kicked in." New TV ads always help the cause of a company and product, right?

"The new TV advert went live this week and we've already seen amazing feedback from PS4 owners on the Remote Play feature, and the success of Tearaway highlights what a great proposition PS Vita is, either as a standalone device or as the perfect companion to PS4."

The Remote Play feature may have helped, and we're sure the PS4/Vita hardware bundles helped to boost the Vita sales numbers as well. Sony has been pushing their slick handheld as the "perfect companion" to the new PlayStation console since February, when the PS4 first unveiled. We wonder if the Vita really can pull itself up with the help of the new system; personally, I still think it needs the exclusive software to flourish.

Since our PSN account confirms whether or not we own a PS4 they should do special sales on Vita for PS4 owners.

I still need like a single, concrete reason to actually buy one. So far I can't find one, it's like it does all of this stuff but focuses on nothing.

they've shown a whole slew of them several months ago, including also the DK game from a few weeks ago. you sorta think people would start nabbing up Wii U's this Christmas to prepare for the year of coming games…

I think Wii U is just a stand by product to keep Nintendo's name in the game and support new Mario games until they can think of something new.

February and March looks like the time I'll get a PS4. I want to see previews of Dying Light, Mad Max, and Thief. I already look forward to MLB the Show for both the PS4 and Vita. It is already incredible on the PS3 and Vita so I expect greatness for it on the PS4.
The remote play feature for the PS4/Vita intrigues me too, as I'm still trying to imagine playing cool PS4 games on the little Vita bad boy. 🙂

everywhere you would assume.
its funny $onys so desperate to sell the vita i saw wireless one yesterday selling it for 200 bucks!
that was the KZ mercenaries bundle too, so it comes with a $20 PSN voucher, the game and a 4GB memory card.
100+ bucks worth of added value, and you still get 200 bucks of the RRP of the system!
still not worth it though, lets see a uncharted golden abyss sequel and a gravity rush sequel, then maybe will talk.

It's so ridiculous how they refuse to give any numbers. 68% of… What? Obviously, 68% of nothing is still not much!

Makes it hard to follow actual trends doesn't it? I guess 68% of the average rate of sales? They play with these numbers so much and they are affected by so many factors that they are almost useless.

Regardless of what they base the percentage off, as long as we don't know the actual number it's meaningless. Like, if it means an increase of 68% from 50 sold units the month before it only means 34 additional sales. Who the heck bought a
Vita in the UK right before the ps4 launch anyway…?

All I'm saying is this means NOTHING unless we get to know the base of this percentage number. Cause one thing is sure : one tend to only use percentage when the actual result is very very low.
