Target To Hold Sale For All Vita Models

Hey, remember the PlayStation Vita? It hasn't been in the news much lately, but a lower price can definitely turn heads.

Unfortunately, it's not an official price drop, but at least you can save a significant chunk of change on a Vita purchase. A leaked Target advertisement (as spotted in the Blu-Ray forums ) says Sony's portable will be marked down to $199 for the week of August 18 through August 24.

We're not sure which model they're talking about, but the ad does say that "all" the systems will be marked down. Currently, the 3G-enabled version sells for $299 while the Wi-Fi-only model goes for $249. The portable did get a price cut in Japan earlier this year, but Sony made it plain that it wouldn't happen in other territories. At least, not yet. Personally, I want to see the price drop right around the holidays when the PlayStation 4 launches. That'd really boost sales, don't you think?

And it would definitely help if Killzone: Mercenary hits big next month.

That usually means a new model is on the way, maybe with an official price drop.

You'd be wise to wait for the new model. The Vita's battery power sucks. Period. Literally, games have dialed back the processing frequency of the Vita, like AC Liberations for one, in order to prolong battery life. This would stop happening when the Vita's battery became more substantial.

Yeah there's no limit on my wait meter, I may not get it at all at this point. I never have time to play the games I have on my PSP as it is and I only now technically have enough liquid money to spend on a PS4.

If I hadn't played the PSP as much as I have I would've never have considered a Vita.

200 for both models, sounds like a clearance to make way for something else.

Still no real good content for the Vita, so sale or no sale, it still isn't going to sell very well. It bothers me that Sony is so against doing anything for the PSP/Vita outside of japan, I know that they sell a lot of machines in Japan, but do they really think treating all the other countries like crap is going to boost sales? I think it's quite the opposite…

I would also think that with the PS4 out, Vita sales will go down, not up. It just boils down to no MUST HAVE games, and with both costing 300+ once taxes and a game/mem card are out of the way, I wouldnt imagine people will have a lot of money left to buy the other, and really who would get a vita over a PS4.

no point on dropping the price, no matter how far, till the thing gets some bloody dam games!
pretty pathetic theres only what 3 games releasing for it for the rest of the year.
a shooter we have MORE than enough of, a batman game which looks pretty average, and tearaway which for a change actually looks quite cool.
not exactly the lineup thats going to make people say yea i totally need to go buy one of these things!
especially when the 3DS and other portable devices have far more and far better content, far cheaper as well.
not to mention every man and his dogs saving up for next gen systems now.

With a ps plus membership, you get Uncharted:GA, Gravity Rush, and Wipeout 2048. That's some of the best available portable content right there. Then, there's Ninja Gaiden, Dragon's Crown, Rayman, Sly Cooper Guacamelee, Stardust HD, Soldner-X, Velocity Ultra, etc. The only genre that hasn't quite been nailed was fps, but yes, Killzone: Mercenaries is on the way. But, hey, everyone and their dogs seem to be knocking on the Vita, so, by all means, hop on aboard.

yup and almost all those games are either a ports of ps3 games which were out for months prior, or b sequels to franchises which have already been thoroughly milked!
no one buys a system so they can play games they can already play on a system they already have!
only game worth actually playing is gravity rush, and even that gets pretty repetitive and boring really quickly!

"Vita's got no games."
"Vita's got plenty of games, many of them on par with full blown console games."
"That's because many of them are console games."
"Yes, so, Vita DOES have games, and some of them, like LBP, are even better on the go, and while most of them are better on the ps3, I am primarily a console gamer. But, when I am on the go, the ps Vita's got me covered like no other handheld does."

riddle me this Einstein.
whats the point of having games if said games are crap / games you already have played elsewhere?

Most games according to your rants on any and every platform are crap anyways (aside from the occasional shovelware like Alpha Protocol), but yeah, I'll give you this: There's a fine line between redundancy and versatility of giving us games on the go that we had already. And, yes, what platform couldn't use more variety? But, I still think the Vita has got more variety and AAA titles than any other handheld.

Dragon's Crown = REAL reason to own a Vita

Sure, there's the PS3 version, but the Vita version controls a bit better. And that OLED screen… LAAAWD.

Anyway, I don't want to wait until the holidays for a price drop. I need a price drop *now*.

I have heard no mention of a new version though. A new version with better battery life would be worth waiting for, even if it's the same price. But those memory cards HAVE to get a price cut. It's ridiculous.

If this rumor proves true then I will cause a minor surge of Vita sales. Im holding out for the PS4/Vita bundle though.
