We know that firmware update 2.00 for the PlayStation Vita delivers the premium PlayStation Plus subscription option, which is great.
But it also offers a dash extra, as revealed by Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida, who we typically like to follow on Twitter .
Not only do we get Plus, but we also get a faster web browser, which is now usable in-game. Essentially, as Yoshida explains it, the browser becomes a "small app," which means you can access it without exiting out of a game. This is especially useful if you need to reference one of those digital walkthroughs, and Vita owners should find this upgrade highly useful. Of course, the addition of the Instant Game Collection probably takes priority, especially because Sony has quite a few Vita titles all ready to go. Some great titles can be had!
Future improvements are inevitable; we're just hoping that such updates will continue to make the Vita more attractive in the eyes of prospective owners. It's already pretty attractive, though…
Downloading it now! 😀
I'm typing this on the updated browser and the thing loads pages extremely fast. What ever Sony did I hope they do it to the PS3 browser too.
The other apps seem to work fast as well, not just the browser. For instance the FB app was kinda slow (at least for me not sure if the case for anyone else) and now everying I select just opens on the fly.
is there a decent selection of titles using the cloud storage/transfer system from ps3 to vita that MLB the show employs? this is a major selling point for me and i am wondering how well this has been implemented?
Cool. Maybe they could update the PS3 browser. It's only been, what, 6 years or so?
The browser was updated in 4.10 back in February to have support for HTML 5
Yup.
Great. Now maybe they could make it stop freezing every time I click something.
Lol It can use some more work.
Always room for improvement.
PS3 browser is regularly updated. The trouble it faces is that it's a mobile browser running on a full size system. They should have got Firefox.
Downloading now too!
"which is now usable in-game."
Nice! Off the download it now.
Nice, there are quite a few new features in this update.
Yup, they updated near and everything. Feels faster and a whole lot better.
Alarm clock application yet? I'd love to be able to put the thing in the desktop charger/cradle and have it go into alarm clock mode with music player accessible – for example.

This sounds pretty slick. Now I have a reason to get online with mine.
Off topic, playstation all stars is up on the store for anyone and everyone :).
This is really wonderful, can't wait till it goes online for me!
Wow, the browser is super fast so far (im using it now). It froze up on me the first time I opened it up but it's been smooth sailing since then.
FINALLY!
now all they need is the "pause game" feature the PSP go had and OS wise the vita will be complete!
Why do you care? You sold your Vita.
Pause game, hmmm let's see Mr Underline…, press the PS button and the thing puts the game in the background and pauses it. Sounds like a pause function to me. Though I guess since you sold your Vita we can hardly expect you to know that, and of course if you press the power button once the whole unit goes into standby, once again pausing the game. Funny that, there are two ways to pause a game and you seem unaware of either. I guess you just don't know very much do you?

learn to read dude.
ill say it again, for the hard of hearing.
LIKE THE PSP GO HAD!
christ, do i have to explain EVERYTHING down to a kindergartener level?
fine, the PSP GO you see was a revised device $ony released to update the PSP line, it was much smaller than the 3000 revision and had no drive.
due to that they were able to fit into a smaller form factor and added a sliding screen.
also added a few new nifty features, one in particular was the "pause game" option.
this would let you pause the game, go back to the XMB and start another game or application.
once your done with that application you can go back to the menu and continue where you were left off with the original game.
simplified enough for ya?
Yes, it does that, it's done that since at least July (when I got mine).
All I know is my wife will be having spine surgery on Wednesday and I'm taking my Vita with me into Hospital for as long as she's there. Priority tonight is to update firmware and download the instant collection titles I want to my memory card.
Hope all goes well for your wife buddy.
Thanks Nix, I appreciate it.
Well, crap on a stick, our medical insurer denied the surgery at the last minute so now or surgeon has to fight with the insurer's agent aka 'Dr. No' to get permission to fix my wife's back. God I love private medicine…NOT!
