Ben-DutkaThe PlayStation Vita needs great games. That much is a given.
And one of those great games should be Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed III: Liberation , which was officially unveiled last week at E3. It's an example of the publisher's faith in Sony's portable; Ubisoft senior vice president of sales and marketing Tony Key says his company has always liked the platform .
"It’s a really good platform and we’ve always liked it. The way it’s designed, it’s a beautiful piece of hardware. It’s got cool features that you can’t get anywhere else. And Assassin’s Creed, we believe, is the right type of game for that system. It’s definitely too early to say that Vita’s not going to be a success."
Ubisoft has already supported the Vita with the likes of Rayman Origins , Lumines Electronic Symphony, Asphalt Injection and Michael Jackson: The Experience HD . In addition to Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified , Ubisoft's Liberation could lead to a solid holiday season for the Vita. Added Key:
"Assassin’s Creed III is not the only big Vita game coming this holiday, and I think that’s a good thing. We’re actually very happy that there’s another big Vita game coming for Christmas from a competitor because we think that will raise all boats. It’s going to generate a lot of interest in the Vita this holiday season. Sony’s going to be spending a lot of money and resources to make sure that the Vita is there and it’s relevant and it’s doing well."
Key finished by saying that Assassin's Creed "is exactly the type of brand" that needs to hit Sony's handheld, and we have to appreciate that sentiment. AC is one of our favorite franchises of the generation and to have a full standalone entry on the Vita…? Awesome.
I hope momentum picks up for this system. While I'm still doing fine with my existing PSP, I will eventually migrate over to the Vita once I feel the time is right. At that time I'd like a nice selection of quality games to choose from. This Assassin's Creed looks pretty nice. THough, I thought the E3 presentation of it made it look a bit behind the PS3. Perhaps that's to be expected with a first time effort on new hardware and presumably a limited budget. Ultimately, I hope it sells well so Ubisoft can see it blossom into a real strong series on a handheld.
But until then I'm really enjoying Motorstorm on my PSP =)
This seems to be a trend every time Sony releases a product lately, I don't remember it so much with the PS1 and PS2, but for the first year or two after sony launched the PSP, the PS3 and now the Vita, there always seems to be loads of articles on how there are no games to support the stellar product that they worked hard to build…
Maybe they need to start thinking about delaying the launch of the products until some developers have had time to create some stellar software to back it up…
They did delay it in North America. Apparently not long enough though.
After playing Gravity Rush today this system is going to be just fine. What an amazingly top tier unique experience!
Just wait until the rumored PS+ benefits start to hit. I read there is a survey from Sony that states we could soon see a PS+ Nation where if we buy the PS3 version we would then get the Vita version free, or vice versa. Also the possibility of a GT Vita that would use this same model I just outlined! I am guessing they are talking about the GT6.
Even without the above ambrosia the Vita is going to have a very bright future!
I want to know what happened to the Resident Evil game that was announced for the PSP two years ago. I'm hoping it has since been developed as a Vita game.
They gave it to slant 6 and it became Operation Raccoon City…lol…

Yes, but deep down, you've always loved it too. Even if it was but a twinkle in your eye!
I love my Vita. Yes I would like a some new titles but it'll come. I'll probably be picking up Gravity Rush tomorrow. Just not sure if I want the retail or digital version. The digital is $5 cheaper and it comes with the first DLC if you buy before 6/19.
Right now the only retail game I have left is Disgea 3 and I get bored with it sometimes. It's a great game but just not 100% my type of game. I had about 6 other games but they just didn't cut it for me. I did finish Uncharted once and just didn't feel like playing it anymore.
AC and COD I will most likely buy for it. What would be nice with COD is if they make it to where I can use my same online character on the PS3 version and Vita.
I just hope that there is more in the pipeline. I'm looking to get one late this year or early next, and I wouldn't mind having a half-dozen games to occupy me for a while. Well, there's already a few out that I'm interested in and more have been announced, but I'm still waiting.
Also, Sony could really capitalise on the seemingly bare holiday season this year if they managed to get a whole bundle of high-quality Vita games releasing in that period with a lot of advertising…
i'm just glad that these big titles are comming to my veta, it was such a kick in the teeth that when sony brought out there veta in japan, monster hunter which had great success on the psp was released exclusively on the 3ds. Imagine if that game released on the veta day one instead.
lt's exclusive mainstream high profile 3rd party games were domination for your platform lies.
Fingers crossed for some good advertisements for these two big games, sony should almost treat it like a relurnch.
thats quite obvious, ubisoft have been one of the systems strongest supporters!
its a real shame games like liberation, COD and LBP were not ready earlier though it really would of changed the vitas position!

really shows what the vita needs!
its a shame its taken so long for the game to get created, it really will help turn the tide.
i just hope liberations is one of many games tailored exactly for the system though.
it really needs more unique experiences on it, and allot more new IPs!
gravity rush was a really good start, yea its combat is really boring and frustrating but just the art style and uniqueness of the game really shows that its really a window into a more unique diverse experience.
so many developers are really reluctant to do certain genres like survival horror because of sales concerns, well making a PSN game for the vita is a perfect way to try fix that.
low cost, easier to make and the vita user base is looking for that experience allot more than what console users are.
MP is allot less emphasised on hand helds so there the perfect medium to stretch into the weird and niche titles!
i just really hope publishers realise that and take advantage of it!
hopefully gravity rush sells though the roof to try encourage that!
I haven't regretted my Vita purchase for one minute. Announcements for games like Assassins Creed just further solidify that sentiment. Can't wait!
And for any Vita owners that haven't played Rayman, I highly recommend it. It's platforming gold!
