“PlayStation Vita Game Heaven” Kicks Off Next Friday

The PlayStation Vita had 26 titles available at launch, and Sony has often said that over 100 more games are currently in development.

Of course, we don't know about all of them just yet, although certain titles – like the highly anticipated Resistance: Burning Skies , Gravity Rush , and Unit 13 – have already been revealed. The good news is that we'll soon learn about more future software, which is a good sign.

According to an Andriasang report , Sony will hold a special event on Friday, March 9 at 8 p.m. JST (3 a.m. PST) that will be streamed from the company's official website. The event is enticingly titled, "PlayStation Vita Game Heaven" and as you might expect, new game announcements for the next-gen portable are scheduled. They'll also talk about various Vita services that haven't arrived just yet. Perhaps we'll get an update on the compatibility of PS1 classics; we know that's a major feature for a lot of hardcore gamers out there.

The more time I spend with that Vita, the more I'm impressed with its capability and potential. More reviews coming soon; look for Asphalt Injection , ModNation Racers: Road Trip , and Dungeon Hunter: Alliance .

Hey Ben, have you ever considered letting John review a game for PSXE?

John is a figment of Ben's imagination. Poor soul does all the writing himself.

Arnold used to help, but then he got another gig (or so I heard), so he's mostly absent except during the holiday rush.

John is Ben's childhood imaginary friend.

No, you're all wrong. Lt. Col. John Sheppard is the military commander of humanity's outpost in the Pegasus galaxy. He only writes part time because he can't send in articles unless there is a scheduled wormhole opening to transmit through.

I'll have to buy him a drink next time I see him on Deep Space 9. Speaking of which, what's the point in drinking a poopy ingredient drink in Mass Effect and/or mixing the two drinks together and drinking it?

I was on the fence, teetering! I am making the plunge tomorrow and buying a Vita! I am so excited and cannot wait. I am going for the 3G model with the free 8GB MC. My first game will be Ultimate Ghost 'N Goblins! Uncharted will be second. So it's going to feel good contributing to the gaming powerhouse that is Sony! 🙂

Oh yeah, cannot wait to see what they announce on the 9th!

It'd only be 'Vita Game Heaven' for me if PS2 classics become compatible for the Vita (I plan on getting FFX hd and hope Rogue Galaxy goes on it too). Of course the PS1 classics too– it's keeping me from deactivating my PSP to activate my Vita.

Imagine how big the spaces are required to download those PS2 games.

exactly man, people are already mad enough that the memory cards are way too expensive, although I think sony can do 16 gbs of SSD in the vita revision.

You don't need to deactivate your PSP to activate your Vita. You can have up to 2 PS3 consoles, and 2 handheld consoles (PSP/Vita) active at one time. If you only have 1 PSP activated on your account, then you can activate your Vita with no problems.

I personally have 2 active PS3s (20GB launch and 80GB non BC), a PSPgo, and the Vita. So I know from first hand experience that you can keep your PSP activated along with your Vita.

PS2 games are about the size of full-sized Vita games (~2 GB); a few would be larger (4-6 GB), but fewer than you'd think.

I would love to see Monster Hunter announced because it is such a system selling title. Monster Hunter would sell a lot of Vitas especially in Japan.

Maybe something from Hideo Kojima?

A Resident Evil game would be great as well. I've heard some good things about RE Revelations…creppy atmosphere along with scarce ammo to help add to the tension.

Hmm. Jawk owns a 3DS. I would love to know if he's played it. It's not because I'm interested in a 3DS because if I bought a handheld it would be from Sony. I just would love to hear some firsthand evidence that Capcom is listenting to hardcore Resident Evil fans.

I wonder if this event would be considered big enough for such high profile games. I guess we will find out soon enough. 🙂

Oh yeah, I do hope the Vita will soon be able to play PS1 classics because I know there are some here that loved to play the PS1 classic JRPGS on their PSPs.

Hasn't Monster Hunter already been announced? I'm pretty sure I've seen something about that somewhere.

Monster Hunter for the Vita was listed somewhere(can't remember where) on a list of upcoming Vita games but I do not think there has been an official announcement yet.

I hope we get some more RPGs announced. Maybe a new Phantasy Star Portable?

It's funny, even when I own the handheld (no vita yet but have PSP and have had other ones) I never get excited about a portable game announcement. It's like "Oh cool, I'll get that when I have the time and money" no matter how big the title, but with a big console game I'm all "Day 1 baby".

I don't think you are alone in considering a console game the higher priority.

I'm with you on that comment bro. Speaking for myself, I'm jazzed about the vita solely for the purpose of being able to remote play my ps3 games and synchronize my save between the two devices.

i hope they announce a getaway game, GOW, and syphon filter.
just 3 famous playstation franchises that seriously need a vita release!
oh and TM would be nice, but sadly i cant ever see that happening.
especially since jaffe left, and ESP are now working on crappy mobile games!
🙁

Game heaven on Vita? Easy, they need to announce the following;

PS1 classics now available.
Many (100's) more PSP games on compatibility list.
12+ new games in the next 30 days with a release schedule covering the rest of 2012 with several games a month, even during the traditional drought months, and a big ramp up in September, October, November and December.
Finally they can announce new firmware that includes an alarm clock, and the ability to read picture and music by folder since choosing between several thousand images or tracks is tedious at best.

And let the flaming and backlash/drama begin!!!! Is anyone really worried about the specs of the ps4? I mean really? I don't even need to guess that the ps4 will be one hell of a machine. If anyone has learned anything this gen, it's not always the hardware. It's most importantly about the "experience". Having said that i have full faith in sony to deliver one hell of a machine just like the ps3.
