PS3 Update Will Allow Vita Remote Play For All Titles

The PlayStation Vita keeps getting cooler.

According to Eurogamer , an upcoming PlayStation 3 firmware update will enable the Vita Remote Play feature on all games. Yes, all.

The resolution will be limited to 480×272, which will then be upscaled to fill the screen, but it's still a sweet option. For those of you who don't know, Remote Play is basically how the Vita will link up with the PS3. If you remember the Tokyo Game Show, Sony boss Shuhei Yoshida played a little bit of Killzone 3 streamed onto the Vita from the PS3.

This will work with co-op, too, as one person can be playing a game on the PS3 and the other can be playing with him…the same game, but on the Vita. That's just wacky. We've known for a while that Sony really wanted PS3 and Vita fans to virtually congregate; it's all part of the expanding Network and the PlayStation family.

YES! This is a feature I always wanted them to expand upon with PSP, but it never really went anywhere. I have a wife and kids, so the TV is often monopolized for non-PS3 purposes. It would be great if I could hang out in the living room with them and play some PS3 on my Vita…

Hehehe just for the heck of it… At this point why bother if sony is about to release the next gen console?

now thats a cool feature!
just a shame not many ps3 titles have co-op, so there wont be many games that can take advantage of it.
great solution to save us from loosing half our screen, one of my pet gripes of co-op!
i wish all developers would use the tech used in the leggo games, how the screen is 1 solid screen, then if players get a certain distance away it splits, then once they come back it seals back to one screen.

If this works with existing titles (just the remote play bit), then I'm sold on being sold on buying Vita on Day 1…LOL! OK, who am I kidding, I'm getting Vita on Day 1 anyway, but this feature will/could be awesome.

I'm glad to see they are doing this.

Now what I would like to see them do is the exact opposite. Let me play Vita/PSP games on my TV using reverse remote play. There are so many games I would like to play that have come to the PSP but I absolutely hate playing on a handheld system for more than 10-20 minutes. I don't care if the graphics have to suffer because of this. I've been playing games since 1982 and graphics are nothing but the icing on the cake.

This sounds good but there better not be lag like there currently is.

Do you have to be nearby or can u use the internet? God the lag is gonna be awful.

if you could use internet it would be VERY cool, just leave your PS3 on and I could play all day at campus 🙂 hehehe maybe not the best idea

With the PSP you can either do it direct to the PS3 via Wifi, or over the Internet from a remote location. So it's either or, I bet Vita will be the same. Essentially when you are at home you have zero lag, but over the Internet you'll have standard Internet lag. With the PSP you can remotely power on your PS3 and power it back off again when you are done. Game support for the feature was poor, but other than that it works a treat.

If this new firmware update can stream a lower resolution video stream to the Vita for remote play regardless of what the PS3 is doing, that removes any issues of game compatibility.
