It's no secret that my love affair with JRPGs has long since dissipated, if not entirely disappeared.
The glory days of the PS1 are long gone and I will never support the idea that those old-school mechanics – both turn-based and hybrid styles – are simply "inferior" because of lacking technology. They offered different interactive options for those who put strategy and story first, and that's that.
But additionally, the quality of the JRPG and sadly, of many Japanese games in general, has decreased over the years. It's just that simple. I still hold out hope for some upcoming titles like Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness and Persona 5 , but I've never been a huge fan of either. Well, Star Ocean: The 2nd Story on PS1 is still one of my favorite games of all time but I never completed a Star Ocean title after that. And Final Fantasy was dead to me after the travesty that was Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII .
I've always liked Kingdom Hearts , though, and I really think the third entry will be fantastic. Furthermore, it will offer a lighthearted spin on the darker themes we see so often today, and while I'm no Disney fanboy, I can certainly appreciate the iconic mascots. They just better give me a way to keep some of those characters in my party this time around, you know? Don't force me to stick with Donald and Goofy forever. Then toss in a magical narrative and those beautifully drawn and nostalgic locales, and I'll be good to go.
I just wish Square Enix would give us a finalized release date, damnit.
Related Game(s): Kingdom Hearts III
Unfortunately they can't let you keep other party members because Disney doesn't want their franchises mixing up in that way. Don't ask why, I don't know
Im really hoping it releases next year. At least we have 2.8 this year. I was very surprised when SO was announced I thought Tri-ace was done with the series!
I still have high hopes for FFXV and FFVII remake, and I'm anticipating the release for Star Ocean 5, Ni No Kuni 2, and Tales of Berseria.
Refreshing to read a comment that like this on this site.
This is another series I never tried, couldn't bring myself to care about Disney characters. If however someone decides to make a jrpg with Looney Tunes characters then I would be all over that.
no meddling!
but there is no excuse to not have an original character like Riku or Kairi on the party. That would be cool.
No meddling with other worlds!
Zero interest in Kingdom Hearts. The mixture of disney characters with FF characters I personally don't like. Make it all FF characters and then I'll be interested.
Exactly, how gay is it to have mickey mouse alongside awesome characters?
I'm no kid, but it's a refreshing and bold move that works imo. Now it's not exactly FF intertwined with Disney. K maybe it is, but It's really Sora and the crew traveling around different universes or world that happens to be Disney and Final Fantasy. The story doesn't really revolve around the mix of Disney and FF.
King Mickey as a keyblade master could kick Squall's ass.
The only potential this series now has for decency is Star Wars meeting Final Fantasy.
To cool for Disney characters World?
Far too cool. Never liked em. Creepy, creepy stuff.
It's not for everyone. Just most.
Hey man, Let It Go.
This game made me imagined what it would be like if there was an FF game real time gameplay as this series does. That's why my hope is high for FFXV. Thank you, nomura and your vision.
not interested in such a game nor any of the action final fantasies.
what remains for me is tales series, smt/persona series & the occasional decently made turnbased rpg, be it by "sqaure" or otherwise. problem with the last is most devs wont invest enough to even make ps2 grade turnbased jrpgs anymore, opting instead for the "future"/action, so we mostly get indie games killed by their own budget /super retro with lackluster story.
