Could PlayStation VR Be The Only Boost PS4 Needs This Holiday?

So the word is that PlayStation VR might launch this fall .

If it really does come out for the holiday season, that could be a very big deal, even if gamers are a little slow to adopt this fresh and unproven technology.

The hype surrounding this thing will be through the roof (hell, it already is) and that alone might rocket PS4 to a big holiday victory. We're often talking about the importance of software in regards to hardware performance during the critical fourth quarter. But in this situation, it could be the accessory to end all accessories that gives PS4 sales a huge boost. Plus, if it really does come out with a $300 price point , that could make this particular VR device extremely attractive.

Of course, if Oculus Rift and other VR machines beat PlayStation VR to market, that could be a problem. Those willing to jump onto the VR bandwagon are almost guaranteed to pick one particular device and go with it. And if they're particularly anxious, they might just snag the first one that's available, even if it's significantly more expensive than Sony's offering. Still, it stands to reason that PS4 will benefit from the release of the previously named Project Morpheus, so maybe we don't need a heavy-hitting exclusive for the holiday 2016 season.

I think yes, it's going to be enough rumble to set PS4 up as the talking point all over the place.

If they could up the schedule of Horizon: Zero Dawn or Detroit that would be icing on the cake.

I'm thinking "No Mans Sky" too.

That game is going to have to get a 10 all over the place to live up to how they've been hyping it.

It will definitely make the PS4 THE console to own this gen. I hope it boost sales, but I'm expecting a fairly small adoption rate at first.

I just don't see the average person spending as much as they did for the console (more if you don't already own the move and camera) on a accessory that won't be compatible on the biggest games. Hope I'm wrong and it sets the gaming world on fire. Then it will continue to get support.

I've been a little back and forth if I want to get it day one. I really want it, but I'm still a little sceptical, and with things like this I usually wait for the second version anyway.

I also don't expect the actual sales to run away wild. Look for many to say it was a flop at first. VR has to be adopted like an ugly child, slowly until the love grows.

I do hope we don't have another Holiday without a AAA exclusive.

I read on another site that PC's certified as "built for Rift" are going on sale this month from three vendors, shipping next month, and STARTING at $1499. Even if that drops to $999 by Christmas, any price for Playstation's VR that's under about $750 suddenly looks very, very good by comparison.

We're spinning around a lot of speculation, though. Will the PSVR really work as well as the others, at that much of a price difference? What kind of library will it have? Will publishers be able to write once for all the various platforms, or will Sony have to lure them to develop content for PSVR?

A lot depends on what the actual finished product looks like – how well it works, what it costs, and what you can do with it. Until we KNOW those things, we don't know anything.

Just wanted to make one point….

Actually we do know the games that are coming for it, just takes a few moments of your time to research it yourself.

Subtle hint:
There's actually the very thread right here on PSXE that's devoted to the PS4's upcoming VR games, so just hit the "archive" button at the bottom of the main page if you've got the time & effort to scroll a bit through the threads.
I'm also thinking that Google & Wikipedia can become your best BBF's too, LOL

And as far as the launch dates, no telling as of yet when they'll actually arrive though.

With such a hefty admission fee and limited software support, I just Cannot see it ever being successful u til it gets fully integrated in a console and at a cheaper price.

It's just not that impressive. You might fool your brain for a few minutes but that's it. I'm also not sold on the safety of using a devicelike this with monitors mere centimeters from your eye.

Another thing people seem to ignore is how Tangled up in wires you will become. This is incredibly clunky.
