The Division Storyline Will Be Presented In “Three Threads”

It would be a mistake to assume that because of the game's multiplayer focus, there's no narrative.

And in fact, Ubisoft hasn't talked much about the narrative in Tom Clancy's The Division , so we haven't learned much until now.

But thanks to a new interview with Xbox On (catch the full piece below), we find that developer Massive Entertainment has prepared an interesting story presentation for the anticipated tactical shooter. Associate Creative Director Julian Gerighty said the story will be separated into three distinct threads:

"Every mission that you do is going to be linked to one of those story threads and is going to give you a little piece of the puzzle. Once you've completed all the missions in that story thread you'll have all the pieces of the puzzle that you'll put together and get an extra piece that will give you a different perspective on the story."

Gerighty did tell us about each thread: The first centers on the virus that wiped everyone out; the second thread is about the factions and their origins; the third involves restoring the shattered infrastructure and one other plot point Gerighty didn't want to talk about.

Additionally, we find out that the game's PvP battles won't be impeded by any loading or matchmaking and will be presented as seamless events in the game. And yes, Gerighty reiterates that players can experience the story solo; they don't have to team up with other human players, though it's clear the game is designed with online multiplayer in mind.

Tom Clancy's The Division will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on March 8. In the past few weeks, we've gotten an innovative peek at the map , the announcement of a really slick-looking four-part live-action prequel , and the dates and details of this week's beta test .

Will you be participating?

The main story mission was mediocre however there was this multi-part mission involving the female doctor's daughter which was actually incredibly interesting and fairly intense due to the flash back feature the game has where you can scan the surrounding environment and replay the past reconstructed through video cameras etc. You are never able to figure out the full story of any one scene and it always leaves you wondering and worrying about whether or not the people you are viewing are still alive.

If continued to be done right this can be an incredible mechanic.

This mission should be available in the beta, so make sure you track it down!
